3 No chilling winds, or pois'nous breath, Can reach that healthful shore; Sickness and sorrow, pain and death, Are felt and fear'd no more.

4 When shall I reach that happy place, And be for ever blest?

When shall I see my Father's face,
And in his bosom rest?

5 Fill'd with delight, my raptur'd soul
Would here no longer stay;
Tho' Jordan's waves around me roll,
Fearless I'd launch away.

[blocks in formation]

The new Jerusalem.

1 AWAY with our sorrow and fear!
We soon shall recover our home;
The city of saints shall appear,
The day of eternity come !

From earth we shall quickly remove,
And mount to our native abode,
The house of our Father above,
The palace of angels and God.

2 The saints in his presence receive
Their great and eternal reward;
With Jesus, in heaven, they live;
They reign in the love of their Lord.
The Lamb is their light and their sun,
And, lo by reflection they shine,
With Jesus eternally one,

And bright in effulgence divine !

3 No need of the sun in that day,
Which never is follow'd by night,
Where Jesu's perfections display
A pure and permanent light.

The pleasures which beam in his face,
Shed holy affection around;

And all full of love and of praise,
Their high hallelujahs resound!

S. M. WITH CHORUS.

Believers journeying to Heaven.

1 FROM Egypt's bondage come,
Where death and darkness reign,
We seek our new, our better home,
Where we our rest shall gain.
Hallelujah,

2

3

We are on our way to God.

To Canaan's sacred bound,

We haste with songs of joy,

Where peace and liberty are found,
And sweets that never cloy.

Hallelujah, &c.

There sin and sorrow cease,
And, ev'ry conflict o'er,

There we shall dwell in endless peace,

Nor thirst nor hunger more.
Hallelujah, &c.

How sweet the prospect is!
It cheers the pilgrim's breast:
We're journeying thro' the wilderness,
To everlasting rest.

Hallelujah,

We are on our way to God.

248 8.7.7.

The happiness of the Saints in Heaven.
1 SEE how many thousands yonder,
On the Saviour's glory gaze :
Fill'd with love, and joy, and wonder,
While they celebrate his praise.
Jesus is their glorious theme;
Every eye is fixed on him.

2 They were brought thro' tribulation,
In their way to yonder place:
Now with joy and exultation,
They behold the Saviour's face :
They are sav'd from foes and fears;
Jesus wipes away their tears.

3 'Tis the Lamb himself that feeds them,
Theirs is heaven's eternal store:
He to living fountains leads them :
They shall thirst again no more :
Dwelling in the Saviour's light,
They shall serve him day and night.

SUNDAY SCHOOLS.

(Appropriate Psalms.)
[25 Part i. 78. 119 Part iii.]

[blocks in formation]

Prayer for the Young.

GREAT God! with heart and tongue,
For all our youth we pray;

Oh may they learn, while they are young,

To walk in wisdom's way!

2 Now, in their early days,
Teach them thy will to know;
O God, thy sanctifying grace,
On every heart bestow.

3

4

Make their defenceless youth
The object of thy care;

Cause them to choose the way of truth,
And fly from every snare.

Their hearts to folly prone,
Renew by power divine;
Unite them to thyself alone,
And make them wholly Thine.

5 Lord, let thy sacred word,

Their warmest thoughts employ ;
There let them daily find the road,
Which leads to endless joy.

[blocks in formation]

After a Sermon for Schools.

1 BLEST work! the youthful mind to win,
And turn the rising race
From the deceitful paths of sin,
To seek redeeming grace.

2 Children our kind protection claim;
And God will well approve,

When infants learn to lisp his Name,
And their Redeemer love.

3 Be ours the bliss, in Wisdom's way,
To guide untutor❜d youth;

And shew the mind which went astray
The Way, the Life, the Truth !

4 Thy Spirit, Father, on us shed,
And bless this good design :
The honours of thy Name be spread,
And all the glory thine.

The Love of Christ for Children.

BY THE CONGREGATION.

1 IN hymns of joy your voices raise,
To sing the great Redeemer's praise;
Yet who but happy saints above,
Can tell the riches of his love?

BY THE CHILDREN.

2 Prais'd be his name! that love is shed
In heav'nly blessings on our head;
He calls the young to seek his face,
And bids them know his wondrous grace.
3 The hungry soul his goodness feeds,
His feeble flock he gently leads :
Deigns in his arms the young to bear,
And makes them his peculiar care.

BY THE CONGREGATION.

4 O gracious Saviour, to thy side
These young and helpless children guide;
Let not their footsteps go astray,
But make them love thy perfect way.

[blocks in formation]

Children are taught their Duty.

BY THE CHILDREN.

10 THOU, who from the infant's tongue,
Wert wont of old to perfect praise,
Almighty Father, hear the song
Which we, thy helpless servants raise.
