CHA P. XXXIII.

Two and forty Journeys of the Ifraelites. 50 The Canaanites are to be destroyed.

AND

Ver. 38 AND Aaron the Prieft went up into Mount Hor, at the Commandment of the LORD, and died there in the fortieth Year after the Children of Ifrael were come out of the Land of Egypt, in the first Day of the fifth Month.

39 And Aaron was an hundred and twenty and three Years old, when he died in Mount Hor.

50 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, in the Plains of Moab, by Jordan near Jericho, faying,

51 Speak unto the Children of Ifrael, and fay unto them, When ye are paffed over Jordan, into the Land of Canaan;

52 Then ye fhall drive out all the Inhabitants of the Land from before you, and deftroy all their Pictures, and destroy all their molten Images, and quite pluck down all their high Places.

53 And ye fhall difpoffefs the Inhabitants of the Land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the Land to poffefs it.

54 And ye fhall divide the Land by Lot for an Inheritance among your Families, and to the more ye shall give the more Inheritance, and to the fewer ye fhall give the lefs Inheritance: every Man's Inheritance fhall be in the Place where his Lot falleth, according to the Tribes of your Fathers ye fhall inherit.

55 But if ye will not drive out the Inhabitants of the Land from before you, then it shall come to pafs, that those which ye let remain of them fhall be Pricks in your Eyes, and Thorns in your Sides, and fhall vex you in the Land wherein ye dwell.

56 Moreover, it fhall come to pafs, that I fhall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them.

N this Book of NUMBERS is concluded the Hiftory of the Hebrews, from their Deliverance out of Egypt, to the laft Year of their Migration in the Wilderness.

In this and the former Books is contained a very particular and diftinct Relation of the many Trials and Tempta

tions that this People paffed through, while they were kept in a Defert, living daily upon miraculous Bread and Water, having the vifible Appearance of the Cloud by Day, to fhade them from the fcorching Beams of the Sun, and a Pillar of Fire by Night.

By the Movement of thefe, their March was directed; but notwithstanding all the tremendous Appearances of the Divine Majefty upon Mount Sinai, and their miraculous. Support by Manna rained every Day from Heaven, and a River ftruck from a Rock, that followed them in this parched Defert, upon the leaft Diftrefs or Difficulty, this People fell into continual Murmurings, Defpondencies, Unbelief, and Rebellions, and fo far PROVOKED the Displeasure of their ALMIGHTY DELIVERER, that but Two of the vast Multitude that came out of Egypt, were permitted to enter into the promised Land.

In reading this wonderful Hiftory, it ought to be confidered, that our SAVIOUR and the Apoftles have in many Inftances applied thefe to the State of the Chriftian Church; which is fummed up in

Ver. MOR

I COR. X.

OREOVER, Brethren, I would not that ye fhould be ignorant, how that ALL our FATHERS were under the CLOUD, and all paffed through the Sea; 2 And were all BAPTIZED unto MOSES in the CLOUD, and in the SEA;

3 And did all EAT the fame SPIRITUAL MEAT;

4 And did all DRINK the fame SPIRITUAL Drink : (For they drank of that SPIRITUAL ROCK that followed them: and that Rock was CHRIST.)

5 But with many of them GOD was NOT well PLEASED: for they were OVERTHROWN in the Wilderness.

6 Now THESE THINGS were our EXAMPLES, to the Intent we should NOT LUST after evil Things, as they also lufted.

7 Neither be ye IDOLATERS, as were fome of them; as it is written, The People fat down to eat and drink, and rofe up to play.

8 Neither let us commit FORNICATION, as fome of them committed, and fell in one Day three and twenty thousand.

[blocks in formation]

9 Neither let us TEMPT CHRIST, as fome of them alfo tempted, and were DESTROYED of SERPENTS.

10 Neither MURMUR ye, as fome of them also murmured, and were deftroyed of the Destroyer.

11 Now all THESE THINGS happened unto them for ENSAMPLES and they are WRITTEN for our ADMONITION, upon whom the ENDS of the WORLD are come. 12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he STANDETH, take HEED left he FALL.

13 There hath no Temptation taken you, but fuch as is common to Man: but GOD is faithful, who will not fuffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the TEMPTATION alfo make a Way to ESCAPE, that ye may be ABLE to BEAR it.

14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from Idolatry. 15 I fpeak as to wife Men: judge ye what I fay.

Ver. 11

ROM. XI.

Say then, Have they ftumbled that they fhould fall? GOD forbid but rather through their Fall SALVATION is come unto the GENTILES, for to provoke them to Jealousy.

12 Now if the Fall of them be the Riches of the World, and the diminishing of them the Riches of the Gentiles: how much more their Fulness?

13 For I speak to you Gentiles, in as much as I am the Apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine Office.

14 If by any means I may provoke to Emulation them which are my Flesh, and might fave fome of them.

15 For if the CASTING AWAY of them be the reconciling of the World; what fhall the receiving of them be, but Life from the Dead?

16 For if the Firft-fruit be holy, the Lump is alfo holy : and if the Root be holy, fo are the Branches.

17 And if fome of the Branches be broken off, and thou being a WILD-OLIVE-TREE, wert graffed in amongst them, and with them partakeft of the Root and Fatnefs of the Olive-tree;

18 Boaft not against the Branches: but if thou boaft, thou bearcft not the Root, but the Root thee.

19 Thou wilt fay then, The Branches were broken off, that I might be graffed in.

20 Well;

20 Well; because of UNBELIEF they were broken off, and thou STANDEST BY FAITH. Be not HIGH-MINDED, but FEAR.

21 For if GOD fpared not the natural Branches, take heed left he alfo fpare not thee.

22 Behold therefore the GOODNESS, and SEVERITY of GOD on them which FELL, SEVERITY; but towards thee, GOODNESS, if thou CONTINUE in his Goodness: otherwife thou alfo fhalt be CUT OFF.

23 And they alfo, if they bide not ftill in Unbelief, fhall be graffed in for GOD is able to graff them in again.

25 For I would not, Brethren, that ye fhould be ignorant of this Mystery (left ye fhould be wife in your own Conceits) that Blindnefs in part is happened to Ifrael, until the FULNESS of the GENTILES be come in.

26 And fo all Ifrael fhall be faved: as it is written, There fhall come out of Sion the DELIVERER, and fhall turn away Ungodlinefs from Jacob.

27 For this is my Covenant unto them, when I fhall take away their Sins.

33 O the DEPTH of the RICHES both of the WISDOM and KNOWLEDGE of GOD: how UNSEARCHABLE are his JUDGMENTS, and his WAYS past finding out!

34 For who hath known the MIND of the LORD, or WHO hath been his COUNSELLER?

35 Or who hath first given to him, and it fhall be recompenfed unto him again?

36 For of him, and through him, and to him are all Things to whom be GLORY for EVER.

BELO

JUDE.

Amen.

Ver. 3 ELOVED, when I gave all Diligence to write unto you of the common Salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye fhould earnestly CONTEND for the FAITH which was once delivered unto the Saints.

4 For there are certain Men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this Condemnation, ungodly Men, turning the GRACE of our GoD into LASCIVIOUSNESS, and DENYING the ONLY LORD GOD, and our LORD JESUS CHRIST.

5 I will therefore put you in Remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the LORD having SAVED the

PEOPLE Out of the Land of Egypt, afterward DESTROYED them that BELIEVED NOT.

6 And the Angels which kept not their first Eftate, but left their own Habitation, he hath referved in everlasting Chains under Darkness, unto the JUDGMENT of the GREAT DAY.

Ver. I

THER

HE B. II.

'HEREFORE we ought to give the more EARNEST HEED to the Things which we have heard, left at any time we fhould let them SLIP.

2 For if the WORD fpoken by ANGELS was STEDFAST, and every TRANSGRESSION and Difobedience received a juft Recompence of Reward.

3 How fhall we ESCAPE if we NEGLECT fo great SALVATION, which at the firft began to be fpoken by the LORD, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him.

4 GOD alfo bearing them witnefs, both with SIGNS and WONDERS, and with divers MIRACLES, and GIFTS of the HOLY GHOST, according to his own Will.

Ver. 5

HE B. III.

OSES was FAITHFUL in all his House as a Servant, for a Teftimony of thofe Things which were to be fpoken after;

6 But CHRIST as a Son over his own Houfe: whofe Houfe are we, if we hold faft the CONFIDENCE, and the REJOYCING of the HOPE FIRM unto the END.

7 Wherefore as the HOLY GHOST faith, To-day if ye will hear his Voice,

8 HARDEN NOT your HEARTS, as in the Provocation, in the Day of Temptation in the Wilderness :

9 When your Fathers tempted me, proved me, and faw my Works forty Years.

10 Wherefore I was grieved with that Generation, and faid, They do alway err in their Heart; and they have not known my Ways.

11 So I sware in my Wrath, They fhall not enter into my Reft.

12 Take heed, Brethren, left there be, in any of you an EVIL HEART of UNBELIEF in DEPARTING from the LIVING GOD.

13 But exhort one another daily while it is called, To

day;
