5 Gracious is the LORD, and righteous: yea, our God is merciful.

6 The LORD preserveth the simple: I was in misery, and he helped me.

7 Turn again then unto thy rest, O my soul: for the LORD hath rewarded thee.

8 And why? thou hast delivered my soul from death: mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.

9 I will walk before the LORD: in the land of the living.

10 I believed, and therefore will I speak; but I was sore troubled: I said in my haste, All men are liars.

11 What reward shall I give unto the LORD: for all the benefits that he hath done unto me?

12 I will receive the cup of salvation: and call upon the Name of the LORD.

13 I will pay my vows now in the presence of all his people: right dear in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

14 Behold, O LORD, how that I am thy servant: I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid; thou hast broken my bonds in sunder.

15 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving: and will call upon the Name of the LORD.

16 I will pay my VOWS unto the LORD, in the sight of all his people: in the courts of the LORD'S house, even in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. the LORD.

PSALM 130.

OUT of the deep have I

De profundis.

5 I look for the

LORD;

called unto thee, O LORD: my soul doth wait for him: in his word is my trust.

Lord, hear my voice.

2 O let thine ears consider well: the voice of my complaint.

3 If thou, LORD, wilt be extreme to mark what is done amiss: O Lord, who may abide it?

4 For there is mercy with thee: therefore shalt thou be feared.

6 My soul fleeth unto the Lord: before the morning watch, I say, before the morning watch.

70 Israel, trust in the LORD, for with the LORD there is mercy: and with him is plenteous redemption. 8 And he shall redeem Israel: from all his sins.

LORD, thou hast searched me out, and known me: thou knowest my downsitting, and mine up-rising; thou understandest my thoughts long before. 2 Thou art about my path, and about my bed: and spiest out all my ways. 3 For lo, there is not a word in my tongue: but thou, O LORD, knowest it altogether.

4 Thou hast fashioned me behind and before: and laid thine hand upon me.

5 Such knowledge is too wonderful and excellent for me: I cannot attain unto it. 6 Whither shall I go then from thy Spirit: or whither shall I go then from thy presence?

7 If I climb up into heaven, thou art there: if I go down to hell, thou art there also.

8 If I take the wings of the morning: and remain in the uttermost parts of the

sea;

9 Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.

10 If I say, Peradventure the darkness shall cover me: then shall my night be turned to day.

11 Yea, the darkness is no darkness with thee, but the night is as clear as the day:

19 Wilt thou not slay the wicked, God: Depart from me, ye blood-thirsty men.

ST. MATTHEW. CHAPTER V, 1-16.

ND seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and when he had sat down, his disciples came unto him: 2 and he opened his mouth and taught them, saying,

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain

mercy.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.

10 Blessed are they that have been persecuted for

righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is. thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out and trodden under foot of men 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a lamp, and put it under the bushel, but on the stand; and it shineth unto all that are in the house. 16 Even so let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

ST. MATTHEW. CHAPTER VI, 5-15.

W HEN ye pray, ye shall not be as the hypocrites: for they love to stand and

pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of

titude came together, and they of every city resorted unto him, he spake by a parable: 5 The sower went forth to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden under foot, and the birds of the heaven devoured it. 6 And other fell on the rock; and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 And other fell amidst the thorns; and the thorns grew with it, and choked it. 8 And other fell into the good ground,

fruit a hundredfold. As he said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

9 And his disciples asked him what this parable might be. 10 And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to the rest in parables; that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand. 11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 And those by the way side are they that have
