I had settled to go with her and take my nd Harry. We joined the ship at Southampton ursday the 14th June. We sailed on the Sunnorning with about twenty passengers, so that ad plenty of room. Two of the other directors with me, Mr. Barber and Captain Carnegie. went on most comfortably on our voyage, the ther was very fine, and the ship as steady as an nd, so much so that the game of skittles was played ry day. One of the passengers, oddly enough, ok some skittles on board with him, and assumed e name of Skittles; a sister he had with him also ent by the name of Miss Skittles. We had one harp gale on the passage, lasting a great part of one light, making the ship roll a little. Our general run per day was about 330 knots. We arrived off Sandy Hook very early in the morning of the 28th June, and came to anchor to wait the tide. By ten o'clock craft of all kinds began to arrive from New York to look at us, and our agents came off to us. The scene soon became very exciting, and the day was a lovely one. When we began to run up to New York, we were accompanied by hundreds of yachts, steamers, &c., and it was certainly a grand and exciting scene. As we passed up through that beautiful entrance to the Hudson, the banks were lined with thousands of people, and the forts and American men-of-war saluted us as we passed, so that it was one continual firing of guns and shouting of thousands of people all the way up to New York, and when we came close
