SUPPLEMENT

TO

THE SEVENTH EDITION

of

Oke's Magisterial Synopsis.

One thick volume, 8vo., 44s. cloth.

The SEVENTH EDITION of THE MAGISTERIAL SYNOPSIS: a Practical Guide for Magistrates, their Clerks, Attornies and Constables, in all Matters out of Quarter Sessions ; Summary Convictions and Indictable Offences, with their Penalties, Punishment, Procedure, &c., being tabularly arranged.

“I am aware that the Lord Mayor has at present an able assistant in the person of a gentleman of the name of Oke, author of the Magisterial Synopsis,' a very enterprising, able and learned man.”The Lord Chancellor Campbell, in the House of Lords, February 23, 1860.

Oke has fairly superseded Archbold. Nobody acquainted with the books of both, and having occasion to use them, will hesitate to indorse this assertion. * . It is now as complete as such a work can be. It needs not description, for it must be well known to all engaged in Magistrates' Courts. For us remains only the easy and agreeable task of recording its appearance as among the legal intelligence of the time, and congratulating Mr. Oke on the well-deserved success that has attended his ingenious labours, and the reward so well earned by his advancement to an important office through the fame achieved by this work."-Law Times, 1860.

One thick volume, 8vo., 358. cloth.

The THIRD EDITION of THE MAGISTERIAL FORMULIST: being a Complete Collection of FORMS and PRECEDENTS for Practical Use in all Cases out of Quarter Sessions, and in Parochial Matters, by Magistrates, their Clerks and Attornies; with an Introduction, explanatory Directions, Variations and Notes.

“What Chitty's 'Archbold' is to the common law practitioner, what Daniell’s ‘Practice' was to Chancery men, what Davidson's Precedents' are to conveyancers, such are Mr. Oke's Works to those engaged in magisterial duties. Can we use higher praise? If we could we would, because a really genuine book of practice is beyond all price. * *** This, the third edition, is destined, we doubt not, to be swallowed up with the same avidity as is usual with this Author's publications."Law Magasine.

12mo., 188. cloth.

The SECOND EDITION of THE LAWS of TURNPIKE ROADS; comprising the whole of the General Acts; the Acts as to the Union of Trusts, for facilitating Arrangements with their Creditors; the interference of Railways and other Public Works with Roads, their Non-repair, and enforcing Contributions from Parishes (including the Acts as to South Wales Turnpike Roads), &c. &c.; practically arranged, with Cases, Notes, Forms, &c. &c., to Nov. 1861.

“In the • Synopsis' Mr. Oke is unique ; the plan was perfectly original, and he has no competitor. In the Turnpike Law' he is himself a competitor with others, who had previously possession of the field. Nevertheless, so well has he executed his design that his volume has fairly taken precedence in the esteem of the profession, because he has written it with the same industrious research and painstaking correction which distinguished the 'Synopsis '"-Law Times.

Post 8vo., 7s. cloth. A HANDY BOOK of the GAME and FISHERY LAWS: containing all the Acts in force as to Game, Rabbits, Deer, Private and Salmon Fisheries, Dogs and Birds, and the new Licences to kill Game, Deer, &c.; systematically arranged, with useful Forms, Notes, Decisions, &c., including the Salmon Fisheries Act, 1861.

- The plan of Mr. Oke's 'Handy Book’ is a very plain and useful one. * * * It will be a most acceptable addition to the country gentleman's library, and presents a most intelligible guide to the existing English laws on game and fish, brought down to the present time " The Field.

8vo., 5s. cloth. AN IMPROVED SYSTEM of SOLICITORS' BOOKKEEPING, practically exemplified by a Year's supposed Business, with Directions for Posting, Balancing, Checking, &c.* Adapted to small, moderate and large Offices; to Partnership and sole Concerns.

PREFACE.

The New Criminal Law Acts having rendered necessary some amendment of the Seventh Edition of “The MagisTERIAL Synopsis," my Publishers have been urgently, and at a late period, called upon by numerous regular Subscribers to my Works for a Supplement to it comprising the Offences, Punishments, Procedure, &c., enacted by these. Acts, alphabetically and tabularly arranged as in the original Work.

I have, therefore, exerted my best endeavours to present in this Volume the new Law in the mode that has been found so useful by the Magistracy and Practitioners, and as speedily as well as accurately as the limited period allowed me admitted ; I trust, therefore, it will meet with the accustomed favor that has been extended to my previous Works.

I may add that its issue at the present moment results more from a courteous desire to meet so general a demand from purchasers of the Seventh Edition of the “Synopsis" that has reached me through my Publishers, than from any immediate or personal consideration of pecuniary profit.
