Your committee, consisting of the Secretary of Synod, and Messrs. J. R. Kreeger, and Calvin Stetler, of Middleburg, Pa., appointed to audit the accounts of Acting Treasurer, Rev. W. K. Diehl, would report as follows: 1. We have carefully examined the books of the Treasurer, comparing remitters' papers and duplicate receipts with the entries on the Treasurer's books, and find them to be correct. 2. We have also examined the vouchers in the hands of the Treasurer, for money paid out by him, and find these correct. 3. The total amount of money received by Brother Diehl, including the balance of $240.62 from Treasurer McConnell, is $7,646.09. This money has all been paid out each month, except a balance in his hands for Synodical Treasury of $378.94, and for ministerial education of $244.07. The total contributions for the year amount to $11,739.03. 4. Your committee, in the name of Synod, would most heartily commend Brother Diehl for his carefulness and accuracy in keeping the Treasury ac counts. 5. We recommend the following: (1) That the report of the Acting Treasurer, Rev. W. K. Diehl, be adopted, and that an order be drawn in his favor for $30.00 for services, and for $8.06 for expenses. (2) That it be a standing rule of Synod that hereafter the Treasurer be requested to report to Synod, in a separate report, the different items of expendi ture from the Synodical Treasury fund. (3) That it be a standing rule of Synod that the Secretary of Synod be instructed to have printed on the remitters' blanks a blank form of receipt, which the Treasurer of Synod shall fill up and sign, and then send the same to the Secretary of Synod, to be used in auditing the Treasurer's account, and that this shall take the place of the duplicate receipt. Respectfully submitted, W. D. E. SCOTT, On motion, the report was received and adopted seriatim. Report of Committee to Audit Account of Former Treasurer, Rev. C. L. McConnell, D. D. Rev. C. L. McConnell, D. D., Treasurer of Synod, having resigned his office, by reason of his removing from the bounds of the Synod, the President appointed, to assist the Secretary in auditing the account of the Treasurer, Messrs. H. G. Wolf and Kreider Kurtz, of Mifflinburg, Pa. The committee, by appointment of the President, met the Treasurer, on April 19th, 1906, when his books and remitters' papers, together with vouchers for money paid out, were submitted to them. The committee, after carefully going over the books, and comparing entries with the remitters' papers and duplicate receipts, found them correct. The total amount of money received by the Treasurer during his tenure of office, was $4,200.09, which, with a balance from last year of $131.16, made the whole amount $4,331.25. Vouchers were placed in our hands covering the money paid out by the Treasurer, amounting to $4,092.94, leaving a balance in his hands of $238.31. In comparing the bank book with the Treasurer's balance we found that the bank credited him with a balance of $240.62. The Treasurer did not claim that amount, but as the bank was willing to stand by its own count, the check was drawn in favor of the President of Synod for that amount, viz., $240.62, and was turned over to him by the committee. This balance was due the following objects: General Synod, $3.00; Synodical Treasury, $139.23; Home Missions, $28.60; Foreign Missions, $15.00; Church Extension, $36.48, and Ministerial Education, $16.00. The difference of $2.31 was turned over to the Synodical Treasury column. All the books and papers of the Treasurer, belonging to Synod, were turned over to the committee and were forwarded to the President of Synod, who assumed the duties of the office of Treasurer by authority of the Constitution. Brother McConnell's duties as Treasurer being ended, he claimed his bond from Synod and it was returned to him. He has filled the office as Treasurer of Synod with care and exactness, and the committee, in the name of Synod, would commend him for his fidelity to his trust. 1. Resolved, That Synod express in this report its deep regret at the loss of this good brother's fellowship and labors among us, and its high appreciation of his Christian character and worth as a man and minister of the Gospel. 2. Resolved, That we assure him of our unfailing remembrance of him in his far-away home and field of labor, and that we commend him and his family to the loving care of Him whom they serve. 3. Resolved, That the account of the Treasurer be approved and that an order be granted in his favor for $5.58 for expenses, and for $20.00 for services. In auditing the account of the Treasurer the Secretary was at an expense of $4.27. Respectfully submitted, W. D. E. SCOTT, On motion, the report was adopted and orders granted. |
