In order that the record may be complete there is attached hereto a statistical table of 7 pages citing the more important illustrations. In each case there is shown the value of imports of the commodity in question in 1939 together with imports from each of the principal foreign suppliers and in each case a star is placed after the name of the country with which bargaining was conducted at Geneva. Space does not permit a discussion in detail in this memorandum. of the more than 50 clear-cut illustrations in question. This will be seen at a glance at items on the first page. In each case the change in rate of duty is indicated in order to complete the most useful information on the subject. The Statistical Abstract records the value of dutiable imports into the United States in 1939 as $878,819,000. In the reports from Geneva we are advised that of this total value those made subject to reduced rates of duty as of January 1, 1948 had a total value of $718,684,000 or more than 80 percent of all dutiable imports. It has already been noted in this memorandum that 189 large items had a total value of imports in the amount of $450,269,000, indicating that these 189 items had a larger value than all of the minor items combined. But what has been said of these large items applies with equal validity to the hundreds of smaller ones.
