A certain number of smaller Bursaries will be awarded to promising students leaving school, or to women desirous of entering on a course of instruction at the University, and who are to reside in University Hall. For information as to details, apply to the Warden (Miss Lumsden). EXAMINATION TIME-TABLE. A competitive Examination for the Bursaries named above will be held in the Hall of the United College, in accordance with the following time-table :— ENGLISH Saturday, 26th September, FRENCH First paper, Tuesday, 29th Sept., 9 to 11, 12 to 2. 9 to 11, 12 to 2. 9 to 11, 12 to 2. 9 to 11, 12 to 2. The Competition will be open to all entrant Students, including those who, although they may have completed their Preliminary Examination, have not since then attended in any Scottish University any class that counts towards graduation. But no Candidate shall be entitled to a Bursary who has not completed the Preliminary Examination, even though his or her place in the Bursary Competition would otherwise entitle him or her to one; provided that it shall be in the power of the Senatus Academicus, with the approval of the University Court, to admit to a Bursary in Arts a Candidate who shall have passed in at least three subjects of a Preliminary Examination, on the condition that he or she shall not retain the Bursary unless he or she shall have passed in all the subjects not later than the second Preliminary Examination after the date of his or her admission as Bursar. Every Bursar must attend during each Winter Session not less than two full classes. The subjects of Examination will be those of the Preliminary Examination, all on the Higher Standard-viz.: English, Higher Latin, Higher Greek, Higher Mathematics, French, German, Italian, and Dynamics. Candidates may select any five, but not more, of the subjects, but will be credited with no marks in any subject unless they make at least 25 per cent of the total marks in that subject. The marks assigned to English, Latin, Greek, and Mathematics shall be in each case double the marks assigned to other subjects. Intending Competitors must obtain from the Secretary of the University a Schedule, and lodge the same, properly filled up, with the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, the University, St Andrews, on or before 19th September. No fee is charged to Competitors for Bursaries; but Candidates for one or more subjects of the Preliminary Examination (with which the Bursary Examination is combined) must pay a fee of half a guinea at the time of giving in their names. The order of merit of the Candidates in the Bursary Competition will be announced at the opening of the Session, and the Bursaries will be allocated to the successful candidates on the P |
