PREPARATIONS

IN ORDER TO THE

CONSECRATING OF A CHURCH

[And Burial Ground.]

T The Church is to be furnished with a Font and Cover, Pews and Seats, Pulpit, Reading Desk, Communion Table, Hassocks or Kneeling Matts, Bier or Trestles, one or more Bells, the Ten Commandments, one large Bible, one Book of Common Prayer for the Reading Desk, the same for the Communion Table, the same for the Clerk, a Book of Offices, Register Books, with Iron Chest for keeping the Registers, a Flagon, Chalice, Paten and Vessel for the Offertory, a Covering for the Communion Table, Linen Cloth and Napkins for the same, Surplices, Pulpit, Cushion, and Hangings.

T¶ [The Burial Ground is to be properly inclosed, fenced, and completed with gates and churchways.]

T The Churchwardens are to be named and the Clerk appointed, and the Deed of Conveyance or Donation of the Ground, the Endowments and the evidences thereof, the nomination of the Minister, and such other documents as shall in any case be requisite, are to be laid before the Archbishop or his Chancellor some time before the day proposed for the Consecration of the Church.

¶ An intimation of the Archbishop's intention to consecrate the Church (and Burial Ground), with the day and hour appointed for it, is to be fixed on the Church door, at least three days beforehand.

If the Building is to be consecrated as a Chapel, in which some sacramental or religious rites may not be solemnized, Chapelwardens are to be appointed, and the same directions to

be observed, except furnishing with a Font, Bier, Register Books, and other articles not required for the service in the Chapel.

¶ Chairs are to be set on the north side of the Communion Table for the Archbishop, on the south for the Chaplain, and one conveniently near the Archbishop's chair for the Chancellor.

The Communion vessels are to be placed on the Communion Table; or, the Books and Vessels may be presented and received at the time of Consecration.
