Bette Carter is a graduate of Central High School and Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. She majored in Christian Education and Music and was privileged to sing in the international radio broadcast called, "Revivaltime." Bette married a minister and they filled pastorates in Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Colorado. This had been her ambition since she was a child, however, life was interrupted by divorce and Bette found herself without a husband, a job, a church and everything that surrounds being "First Lady" of a congregation. What she did have were two wonderful boys that she had the joy of learning how to "single parent."
These were challenging days since she had not worked outside the church for the 18 years of her marriage. Bette began seeking jobs in the secular society that she might qualify for. That was really funny! At her interview for a position with a large oil and gas company, she was asked what position she was applying for. "A secretary," she replied. The man giving her the interview threw back his head and laughed saying, "You won''t start as a ''secretary'' at this company, you will be lucky to start as a ''clerk''!" She was offered a job at the company where she retired after twenty-five years. Her title at retirement was Administrative Assistant to the President, in fact, the last four Presidents. So for a job that she could not qualify for, she climbed to "First Lady" of the Company and that only through the favor and grace of God.
Bette and her wonderful husband, Richard, merged families and "grew" a great family in Colorado Springs, with pride for their children. She has been interviewed on the 700 Club by Sheila Walsh, has spoken at Men''s Conferences, Singles and Couples Retreats and taught at secular organizations. Her articles have appeared in numberous religious periodicals.
