PREFACE The primary purpose of this book is to provide those attending a National Security Seminar with background information on each of the Seminar presentation subjects. It is believed that the conferee will find this material of value as additional information that cannot be included in the presentations because of time limitation, and in providing a basis for a fuller understanding of the presentations. A list of selected additional readings also is included for each presentation, for those who wish to read and examine the subject in greater depth. Two other official documents, available from the U.S. Government Printing Office, are also recommended and have been used as source material for the readings and the presentations. They are: Statement of Secretary of Defense James R. Schlesinger, United States Military Posture for 1976, Statement by The President's Foreign Policy Report to the Congress and the Secretary of State's annual reports to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs have not been released, as this goes to press. These documents are also highly recommended, when available. Written transcripts and visual aids for the presentations are not available. However, tape recordings of the presentations are available on request to the Industrial College and if blank tape is provided. Films used also are not available from the Industrial College. However, the film schedule distributed at the Seminar indicates the sources to which requests for films can be made. |
