1. Mr. Dahanayake asked the Minister of Posts and Information : (a) Are Western musical instruments such as the clarionet, guitar, saxophone, piano, piano-accordian and mandolin, permitted for use oriental programmes? (b) Why are these instruments permitted in the case of oriental programmes conducted by Radio Ceylon and disallowed in the case of radio artistes? (c) Will he see that the same rule operates in all cases, whatever the rule may be?

Ceylon. This rule came into force from January, 1953. During that month the use of the saxophone and piano-accordian was permitted in the special programme called "Show of the Month" because the artistes who had been engaged in December, 1952, were accustomed to the use of those instruments. (c) Yes.

Balapitiya Civil Hospital: Underpayment of Employees

2. Mr. P. H. W. de Silva asked the Minister of Health: (a) Is he aware that the following employees attached to the Civil Hospital, Balapitiya, are underpaid :

(i) M. K. Pilawadian
(ii) V. Raman
(iii) K. Arumugam
(iv) S. Joseph Silva

(v) M. D. Jamis Appuhamy
(vi) L. Evelyn Fernando?

(b) Is he aware that representamatter were tions regarding this matter made by the Second Member of Parliament for AmbalangodaBalapitiya by letter No. ME/75 of 15th November, 1952, to the Director of Health Services but that the Director has failed to reply to this letter up to now? (c) Who is responsible for this delay ? (d) Will he take immediate steps to pay the arrears due to these employees?

Mr. C. E. Attygalle (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Health): (a) No. (b) No. (c) Does not arise in view of reply to (a) and (b). (d) Yes, if arrears are due to these employees.

of Uniforms to Minor Staff

3. Mr. P. H. W. de Silva asked the Minister of Health: (a) Is he aware that uniforms for the year 1951-52 were not issued to the minor staff attached to the Rural Hospital and Maternity Home at Baddegama ? (b) What is the cause for this delay ? (c) Will he take immediate steps to issue these uniforms?
