We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Finance for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

2. Petition presented by Mr. S. M. Rasamanickam on 21.8.52 from Mrs. Thangamuttu Palanithamby of Kaluwanchikudi praying that she be given a pension on account of the death of her husband while he was the headmaster of a Government school with 9 years of service.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Finance for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

3. Petition presented by Mr. C. R. Beligammana on 23.9.52 from W. P. G. Kiriappu of Rahala and 52 others praying that the villages, viz., Rahala, Salewe, Kalallpitiya, Randiligama, Arama and Deiyanwala in the Kegalla District, which now form one headman's division should be divided into two village headmen's divisions in view of the very large population in the area.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Home Affairs for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

4. Petition presented by Mr. C. R. Beligammana on 23.9.52 from H. K. Allis of Dodantale, Mawanella and 113 others, praying that the lands called Ginihapuwehena, Dodantalewatte and Kalatuwawehena in the Kegalla District be acquired for village expansion in view of the large number of landless peasants.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Lands and Land Development for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

5. Petition presented by Mr C. R. Beligammana on 23.9.52 from I. D. Jothiya of Gevilipitiya, Aranayake, a blind man, who was in receipt of a sum of Rs. 5 as public assistance, praying that he be given some assistance as this allowance has now been stopped.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Labour for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

6. Petition presented by Mr. C. R. Beligammana on 23.9.52 from Mrs. A. G. Menikhamy of Makehelwela, Beddewela, praying for some relief in view of the fact that her paddy field called Ihalakotuweillukhenakumbura cannot be worked on account of earth and stones that had been dumped on her paddy field when an anicut was being constructed.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Lands and Land Development for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

7. Petition presented by Mr. S. M. Rasamanickam on 23.9.52 from Mr. T. V. V. Kathiramapody of Arasadithivu praying that the appointment of Mr. P. Mylipody to the post of Village Headman, Kaddukkamunai, Batticaloa District, be cancelled and that he be appointed.

We recommend that this petition do lie upon the Table.

8. Petition presented by Dr. N. M. Perera on 26.9.52 from S. H. Dionis Silva of Beliatta and 71,956 others praying

(i) that the increase in the price of sugar be withdrawn;

(ii) that the rice ration be not reduced nor the price of rice increased.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Agriculture and Food for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

9. Petition presented by Mr. C. R. Beligammana on 26.9.52 from K. D. Rana of Katugaha, praying that the land called Kotikambe which has been used as burial ground by the villagers of Katugaha be acquired by Government and that they be allowed to use the land for the same purpose.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Local Government for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

10. Petition presented by Dr. N. M. Perera on 4.11.52 from P. D. Marthelis of Werahera and 3,586 others praying

(i) that the increase in the price of sugar be withdrawn ;

(ii) that the rice ration be not reduced nor the price of rice increased.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Agriculture and Food for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

11. Petition presented by Mr. S. M Rasamanickam on 4.11.52 from Mr. K. Thamotheran of Kaddukkamunai, praying that the appointment of Mr. P. Mylipody to the post of Village Headman of Kaddukkamunai, Batticaloa District, be cancelled and that he be confirmed in this post to which he was appointed on probation.

We recommend that this petition do lie upon the Table.

12. Petition presented by Mr. C. R. Beligammana on 5.11.52 from Mr. M. S. Seneviratna of Deewela, Udagama, praying that the lands. called Urakande and Deewela, Kegalla District, be acquired for village expansion in view of the acute landlessness of the peasantry in the

area.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Lands and Land Development for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

13. Petition presented by Dr. N. M. Perera on 6.1.53 from J. L. Sumanapala of Induruwe and 404 others praying

(i) that the increase in the price of sugar be withdrawn ;

(ii) that neither the rice ration be reduced nor the price of rice increased.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Agriculture and Food for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

14. Petition presented by Dr. N. M. Perera on 6.1.53 from W. D. Jothiya of Peherambe and 91 others praying— (i) that the increase in the price of sugar be withdrawn ;

(ii) that neither the rice ration be reduced nor the price of rice increased.

We recommend that this petition be referred to the Minister of Agriculture and Food for consideration and such action as may be necessary.

15. Petition presented by Mr. K. Herat on 6.1.53 from D. M. Dingiri Banda of Kasikote, Ambanpola, exvillage headman, praying that he be given a pension in view of his 35 years' service.

We recommend that this petition do lie upon the Table.

16. Petition presented by Mr. I. M. R. A. Iriyagolle on 6.1.53 from Mrs. Susana Hamine Ranatunga of St. Michael's School, Polwatte, praying that her application No. LRO/APL/2401 under the Land Redemption Ordinance be reconsidered and that section 3 (4) of the Land Redemption Ordinance be repealed with retrospective effect.

We recommend that this petition do lie upon the Table.
