BULLIVANT'S PATENT STEEL WIRE CABLES WITH PATENT REEL & NIPPER, AND BULLIVANT & TAYLOR'S PATENT REVERSIBLE CAPSTAN. The Patent Reversible Capstan can be worked either by hand, hydraulic, or steam power. It avoids the necessity of surging the Cable, and any length can be hauled in or paid out. The Capstan is always palled. The Steel Wire Cables are perfectly uniform in strength, and only 1-7th the weight of Chain Cables of similar strength. The Cable is coiled on a reel, and no chain locker is therefore required. The Patent Nipper on which the ship is moored may be fitted with springs so as to prevent the sudden jerk caused by riding in heavy weather. By it one or two men have entire control of the Cable, can slack away fathom by fathom. or stop and secure it. These Patent Hawsers are now exclusively adopted by the Admiralty, and also largely used by most of the foreign services and large steam and sailing ship owners and companies.
