Dear Shepherd of Thy scattered few,
Thy loving mercies here renew;
Here to our fainting hearts proclaim
The healing virtues of Thy name.

Here may we prove the power of prayer,
To strengthen faith, and lighten care,
To teach our faint desires to rise,
And bring all Heaven before our eyes.

Lord we are few, but Thou art near,
Nor short Thine arm, nor deaf Thine ear;
Oh! rend the heavens, come quickly down,
And claim all kingdoms as Thine own.

HYMN 56.

FIRST-BORN of many brethren, Thou,
To whom of right is given

A name, above all other names

Of praise, on Earth, or Heaven.

Before Thy throne shall every knee
Bow down with one accord,
Before Thy throne shall every tongue
Confess Thee God, and Lord.

For Thou hast smitten Death and Hell,
And taken to Thee the prey,

And wrested from the Conqueror's grasp,
The sceptre of his sway.

And Thy right hand hath open flung
The portals of the sky,
And bade the nations hasten in

To share Thy victory.

Fain would we rise, where Thou hast risen,
Treading, where Thou hast trod;
And burst from this encumbering prison,
To find our home in God.

HYMN 57.

THINE heritage and hope are ours,
Dear Lord, we wait to see
Creation, all; below, above,

Redeemed, and ruled by Thee.

Our longing eyes would fain behold
That bright and blessed brow;
Once wrung with pain and anguish, wear
Its crown of glory now.

Why linger then-come, Saviour, come,

Earth sighs for Thy recall,

Set up Thine empire, and reign,

The heir, and Lord of all.

HYMN 58.

THE head, that once was crowned with thorns,

Is crowned with glory now

A royal diadem adorns

The mighty Conqueror's brow

The highest place, that heaven affords

Is His, by native right;

The King of Kings, and Lord of Lords,
He reigns in glory bright.

The joy of all, who dwell above,
The joy of all below,

To whom He manifests His love
And grants its depths to know-

To them the Cross, with all its shame,
With all its grace, is given,

Their name an everlasting name,

Their song-the Song of Heaven.—

They suffer with their master, here,
To meet Him in the sky,
Oh may that love our spirits cheer,
Be our's, that home on high.

HYMN 59.

Go to dark Gethsemane,

Ye, that feel the Tempter's power, Your Redeemer's conflict see,

Watch with Him one bitter hour:

Turn not from His griefs away;
Learn of Jesus Christ to pray.

Follow to the Judgement Hall,
View the Lord of life arraigned,
Oh, the wormwood and the gall!

O the pangs His soul sustained!
Shun not suffering, shame, or loss,
Learn of Christ to bear the cross.

Calvary's mournful mountain climb,
There adoring at His feet,
Mark that miracle of time--

God's own sacrifice complete;

"It is finished," hear him cry, Trust in Christ, and learn to die.

Early hasten to the tomb,

Where they laid His breathless clay,

All is solitude, and gloom,

!

Who hath taken Him away Christ is risen, He meets our eyes, Saviour, teach us how to rise.

HYMN 60.

SING We the song of those, who stand
Around the Eternal Throne,
Of every kindred, clime, and land,
A multitude unknown.

Toil, trial, suffering, still await
On earth the pilgrim throng,
Yet learn we, in our low estate,
The Church triumphant's song.

Worthy the Lamb, for sinners slain,"

Cry the Redeemed above, Blessing, and honour, to obtain,

And everlasting love.

Worthy the Lamb, on earth we sing,

Who died our souls to save;

Henceforth, O Death! where is thy sting? Thy victory, O Grave?

Then Hallelujah! power, and praise

To God in Christ be given:
May all, who now this anthem raise,
Renew the strain in Heaven.
