Hymn 117 1 THROUGH all the changing scenes of life,
1 In trouble and in joy, Still shall the praises of my God,
My heart and tongue employ. 2 Of his deliverance I will boast,
Till all that are distress'd, From my example comfort take,
And soothe their griefs to rest. 3 Come magnify the Lord with me;
With me exalt his name; When in distress to Him I callid,
He to my rescue came.
Experience will decide,
Who in his truth confide.
Have nothing else to fear; Make ye his service your delight, He'll make your wants his care.
Hymn 118. 1 REJOICE ! the Lord is King!
1 Your God and King adore :
And triumph evermore :
2 The mighty Saviour reigns ;
The God of power and love ;
Rose to his throne above :
Into his hands are given :
The Saviour soon will come,
To their eternal home:
Hymn 119. 1 HAPPY the heart where graces reign,
1 Where love inspires the breast : Love is the brightest of the train,
And strengthens all the rest.
And all in vain our fear;
If love be absent there.
In swift obedience move;
The devils know, and tremble too ;
But Satan cannot love. 4 This is the grace that lives and sings,
When faith and hope shall cease : "Tis this shall strike our joyful strings
In the sweet realms of bliss.
Or leave this dark abode,
To see our smiling God.
1 So let our lips and lives express
The holy gospel we profess; So let our works and virtues shine, To prove the doctrine all divine. 2 Thus shall we best proclaim abroad The honours of our Saviour God : When the salvation reigns within, And grace subdues the pow'r of sin. 3 Our flesh and sense must be deny’d, . Passion and envy, lust, and pride ; While justice, temp’rance, truth, and love, Our inward piety approve.. 4 Religion bears our spirits up, , ; Wbile we expect that blessed hope, i The bright appearance of the Lord, And faith stands leaning on his word.
ITH joy we meditate the grace
Of our High Priest above; His heart is made of tenderness,
His bowels melt with love. 2 Touch'd with a sympathy within
He knows our feeble frame; He knows what sore temptations mean,
For he has felt the same.
3 But spotless, innocent, and pure
The great Redeemer stood, While Satan's fiery darts he bore,
And did resist to blood. 4 He in the days of feeble flesh
Pour'd out his cries and tears, And in his measure feels afresh
What ev'ry member bears. 5 Then let our humble faith address
His mercy and his power, We shall obtain deliv'ring grace
In the distressing hour.
1 FROM Greenland's icy mountains,
T From India's coral strand, Where Afric's sunny fountains
Roll down their golden sand;
From many an ancient river,
From many a palmy plain,-, They call us to deliver
Their land from error's chain.
2 Shall we, whose souls are lighted
With wisdom from on high, Shall we to men benighted
The lamp of light deny ? Salvation ! O salvation !
The joyful sound proclaim, 'Till each remotest nation
Has learn’d Messiah's name.
3 Waft, waft, ye winds, his story,
And you, ye waters, roll, "Till, like a sea of glory,
It spreads from pole to pole ; 'Till o'er our ransom'd nature
The Lamb for sinners slain, . Redeemer, King, Creator,
In bliss returns to reign.
HYMN 123. 1 COME, Holy Spirit, from above !
Assist me with Thy heav'nly grace ; Empty my heart of earthly love,
And for Thyself prepare the place. 2 O let Thy sacred presence fill, And set my longing spirit free,
