the firft came, they fuppofed that they should have received more and they likewife received every man a penny. And when they had received it, they murmured against the goodman of the house, faying, Thefe laft have wrought but one hour, and thou haft made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day. But he answered one of them, and faid, Friend, I do thee no wrong: didft not thou agree with me for a penny? Take that thine is, and go thy way: I will give unto this laft even as unto this: Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good? So the laft thall be firft, and the firit last for many be called, but few chofen.

The Epifle. 2.Cor. 11. 19. E fuffer fools gladly, feeing ye yourselves are wife. For yé fuffer if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himfelf, if a man fmite you on the face. I fpeak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak: howbeit whereinfoever any is hold, (I fpeak foolishly) I am bold alfo. Are they Hebrews? fo am I: are they líraelites? fo am 1: are they the feed of Abraham? fo am I are they minifters of Chrift? (1 fpeak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in firipes above measure, in prifons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty ftripes fave one; thrice was I beaten with rods, once was 1 ftoned, thrice I fuffered fhip

wreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; in journeyings often. in perils of water, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the fea, in perils among falfe brethren; in wearinefs and painfulness, in watching often, in hunger and thirft, in faftings o'ten, in cold and nakedness: belide those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches. Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not? If I muit needs glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities. The God and Father of our Lord Jefus Christ, which is bleffed for evermore, knoweth that I lie not.

The Gospel. S. Luke 8. 4.

WHEN much people were

And fome fell upon a rock; and as foon as it was fprung up, it withered away. becaufe it lacked moilure. And fome fell among thorns; and the thorns fprang up with it, and. choked it. And other fell on good ground, and fprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfol. And when he had faid thefe things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. And his difciples afked him, faving, What might this parabe be? And he faid, Unto you it is given to know the myfteric of the kingdom of God: hut to others in parables; that feeing they might not fee, and hearing they might not underhand. Now the parable is this: The feed is the word of God; thofe by the way fide are they that hear: then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, left they thould believe and be faved. They on

the rock, are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy and thefe have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares, and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they which in an honeft and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

And rend your heart, and not your gar.nens, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, flow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return, and repent, and leave a blefling behind him, even a meat of fering and a drink offering unto the Lord your God? blow the

trumpet in Zion, fandify a faft, call à folemn affembly, gather the people, fanétify the congre gation, affemble the elders, ga. ther the children, and thofe that fuck the breafts; let the bride groom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her clofet; let the priefts, the minifters of the Lord, weep between the porch and the alta, and let them fay, Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the hethen thould rule over them;

wherefore thould they fay among the people, Where is their God?

But he anfwered and faid, It is written, Man fhall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and fetteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, and faith unto him, If thou be the son of God, caft thyfelf down; for it is written, He fhall give his angels Charge concerning thee, and their hands they thall bear ce up, left at any time thou Sath thy foot against a flone. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jefus. For this is the will of God, even your far&tification, that ye thould abstain from fornication; that every one of you should know how to poffefs his vefiel in fan&ification and honour: not in the luft of concu. pifcence, even as the Gentiles, which know not God; that no man go beyond, and defraud his brother in any matter; becaufe that the Lord is the avenger of all fuch, as we alfo have forewarned you, and teftified. For God hath not called us unto uncleannefs, but unto holiness. He therefore that defpifeth, defpifeth not man, but God, who hath alfo given unto us his Holy Spirit.

E ye therefore followers of

The Gofpel. S. Luke 11. 14. ESUS was cafting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pafs, when the devil was gone out, the dumb fpake; and the people wondered. But fome

of

them fad, He cafteth out devils through Beelzebub, the chief of the devils. And others, tempting him, fought of him a fign from heaven. But he knowing their thoughts, faid unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to defolation; and a houle divided. against a houfe falleth. If Satan alfo be divided againft himself,

BGod, as dear children; and how thall his kingdom ftand

walk in love, as Chrift alo hath loved us, and hath given himfelf for us, an offering and a facrifice to God for a fweetfmelling favour. But fornication, and all uncleannefs, or coyetoufnefs, let it not be once named among you as becometh faints: neither filthinefs, nor foolith talking, nor jefting, which are not convenient; but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean perfon, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inherit ance in the kingdom of Chrift, and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for becaufe of thefe things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of di obedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them; for ye were fometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, and righteousness, and truth;) prov. ing what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowthip with the unfruitful works of darkrig, but rather reprove

because ye fay that cast out
devils through Beelzebub. And
if I by Beelzebub caft out devils,
by whom do your fons cait
them out? therefore fhall they
be your judges. But if 1 with
