RESOLUTIONS.

[No. 6.] Joint Resolution Making appropriation for the improvement of the Mississippi River from the Head of the Passes to the mouth of the Ohio River, and to supply deficiencies in appropriations for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Mississippi United States of America in Congress assembled, That the sum of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars be, and is Appropriation hereby, appropriated, and immediately made available, for Passes to mouth the improvement of the Mississippi River from the Head of Ohio River, of the Passes to the mouth of the Ohio River, and expended available. according to the provisions of the Act "Making appropriaVol. 29, p. 230. tions for the construction, repair, and preservation of certain public works on rivers and harbors, and for other purposes," which became a law on June third, eighteen hundred and ninety-six.

SEC. 2. That the sum herein appropriated be deducted from the sum of two million five hundred and eighty-three thousand three hundred and thirty-three dollars authorized to be appropriated and expended for the year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, by the provisions of said act of June third, eighteen hundred and ninety-six.

SEC. 3. That to supply deficiencies in the appropriations for the fiscal year eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, there is hereby appropriated out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated the following sums, namely:

Executive

Mansion.

Refurnishing.

Repairs, etc.

EXECUTIVE MANSION.

For refurnishing the Executive Mansion, three thousand eight hundred and seventy five dollars, to be expended by contract or otherwise, as the President may determine. For repairs to the roof of the Executive Mansion, one thousand dollars

[No. 9.] Joint Resolution Authorizing the Secretary of War to use rations for the relief of destitute persons in the district overflowed by the Mississippi River and its tributaries and by the Red River of the North, and making an appropriation to relieve the sufferers by said overflow.

River and its tributaries and by the Red River of the North, by the recent floods. And the Secretary of War is authorized to use the steamers and other boats and vessels belonging to or now employed by the Government upon the Mississippi River and its tributaries in the transportation and distribution of the supplies furnished by the United States or individuals to and among said destitute and suffering people, and he may employ such other means of transportation as he may deem necessary to carry the purpose of this Joint Resolution into effect.
