Lo! Jehovah, we adore Thee,
God the Father, God the Son,
God the Spirit, join'd in glory
On the same eternal throne.
Hallelujah!-

To the Eternal Three in One!

[blocks in formation]

In noblest strains that earth below can raise, Now let his church Jehovah's glories praise; The Father bless, the Son and Spirit own, One God supreme, on one eternal throne: As ages past, thy church will now adore thee, Till endless songs rise in the realms of glory.

HYMN 1. (L. M.)

Morning Hymn.

1. AWAKE, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run;
Shake off dull sloth, and early rise,
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

2. Wake and lift up thyself my heart,
And with the angels bear thy part,
Who night and day unwearied sing
High glory to th' Eternal King.

3. Glory to thee, who safe hast kept,
And hast refresh'd me whilst I slept;
Grant Lord, when I from death shall wake,
I may of endless life partake.

4. Direct, control, suggest this day,
All I design, or do, or say;

That all my pow'rs, with all their might,
In thy sole glory may unite.

HYMN 2. (L. M.)

Sabbath Morning.

1. DEAR is the hallow'd morn to me,
When village bells awake the day,
And, by their sacred minstrelsy,
Call me from earthly cares away.

2. And dear to me the sacred hour

Spent in thy hallow'd courts, O Lord!
To feel devotion's soothing power,
And catch the manna of thy word.

3. And dear to me the loud amen

Which echoes through the blest abode
Which swells and sinks, and swells again,
Dies on the walls, but lives to God.

4. Oft when the world with iron hands
Has bound me in its six-days' chain,
The Sabbath morn has burst my bands,
And let my spirit loose again.

HYMN 3. (L. M.)

Sabbath Morning.

1. AGAIN our weekly labours end, And we the Sabbath's call attend: Let us improve the sacred rest,

And bless the day which God hath blest. 2. This day let prayers and praises rise, To God a grateful sacrifice!

Thy peace, O Lord, on us bestow! Which none but they who feel it know. 3. In holy duties let this day,

Heaven's type and emblem, pass away;
Each Sabbath, Lord, we thus would spend
In hope of that which ne'er shall end.

HYMN 4. (L. M.)

Sabbath Morning.

1. GREAT GOD! this sacred day of thine Demands our souls' collected pow'rs; May we employ in work divine

These solemn consecrated hours.

2. May we adore thy boundless grace, Thy condescension and thy love; O teach our souls to seek thy face,

And fix our hearts on things above. 3. The word of life, dispens'd to-day, Invites us to a heavenly feast;

May ev'ry ear the call obey,
Be ev'ry heart an humble guest.

4. Thy Spirit's powerful aid impart,
O may thy word of life divine
Engage and soften ev'ry heart,
Then shall the day indeed be thine.

HYMN 5. (C. M.)

Lord's Day Morning.

1. TO-DAY God bids his people rest; To-day he showers his grace;

66 Seek ye my face," the Lord hath said;
Lord, we will seek thy face.

2. Thee may we serve and please to-day,
Be this our one employ;
No worldly cares, no vain delights
Disturb our hallow'd joy.

3. Among th' assembly of thy saints,
May we be faithful found;
Together join in humble prayer,
And in thy praise abound.

4. Let thy good Spirit help our souls,
With faith thy word to hear;
Be with us in thy temple, Lord,
And let us find thee near.

HYMN 6. (C. M.)

Lord's Day Morning.

1. FREQUENT the day of God returns,
To shed its quick'ning beams;
And yet how slow devotion burns!
How languid are its flames!
