5. When God his kingdom shall regain, The captives all restore;

Then Jacob shall rejoice again,
And Israel weep no more.

PSALM 15. (7s.)

The Citizen of Zion described.

1. WHO, great God! with favour blest,
Shall within thy temple rest?
Who, protected by thy love,
Dwell on Zion's mount above?

2. He who with a heart sincere
Walks directly by thy fear;
Rules of righteousness divine
Daily in his practice shine.

3. Ne'er from truth his lips depart,
Sacred held within his heart;
Slanders ne'er his tongue employ,
Nor another's fame destroy.

4. He will not his neighbour wrong,
By his actions or his tongue;
He whose ways are truth and love
From thy favour shall not move.

PSALM 16. Part I. (L. M.)

The All-sufficiency of Christ.

1. HOW fast their guilt and sorrows rise, Who haste to seek some idol god!

I will not taste their sacrifice,
Their off'rings of forbidden blood.

2. My God provides a richer cup,
And nobler food to live upon :
He for my life has offer'd up
Jesus, his best beloved Son.

3. His love is my perpetual feast;

By day his counsels guide me right: And be his name for ever blest,

He gives me sweet advice by night. 4. I set him still before mine eyes:

At my right hand he stands prepar'd
To keep my soul from all surprise,
And be my everlasting guard.

PSALM 16. Part II. (C. M.)

The Believer's hope in death.

1. MY soul shall ever bless the Lord,
Whose precepts give me light,
And surest counsel still afford
In sorrow's darkest night.

2. I'll strive each action to approve
To his all-seeing eye;

No danger shall my hopes remove,
Because he still is nigh.

3. Therefore my heart all grief defies,
And doth in God rejoice;
My flesh shall rest in hopes to rise
Wak'd by his powerful voice.

4. He shall the paths of life display,
Which to his presence lead;

Where pleasures dwell without allay,
And joys that never fade.

PSALM 17. (L. M.)

Sinner's portion, and the Saint's hope.

1. LORD, I am thine; but thou wilt prove My faith, my patience, and my love: When sinful men against me join, They are the sword, the hand is thine. 2. Their hope and portion lie below; "Tis all the happiness they know,

'Tis all they seek: they take their shares, And leave the rest among their heirs.

3. What sinners value, I resign;

Lord, 'tis enough that thou art mine;
shall behold thy blissful face,

And stand complete in righteousness.

4. This life's a dream, an empty show;
But the bright world to which I go
Hath joys substantial and sincere;
When shall 1 wake and find thee there?

5. My flesh shall slumber in the ground,
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst the chain with sweet surprise,
And in my Saviour's image rise.

PSALM 18. Part I. (L. M.)

God the defence of his people.

1. NO change of times shall ever shock
My firm affection, Lord, to thee;
For thou hast always been my rock,
A fortress and defence to me..

2. Thou art my Saviour, thou my God: My trust is in thy mighty power: Thou art my shield from foes abroad, At home, my safeguard and my tower. 3. Let the eternal Lord be prais'd,

The mighty rock on which we rest: O'er highest heaven his name be rais'd, Thro' earth his great salvation blest.

4. O God, to celebrate thy fame,

My grateful voice to heaven I'll raise;
And nations, strangers to thy name,
Shall learn to sing their Maker's praise.

PSALM 18. Part II. (C. M.)
God appearing in Majesty.

1. THE Lord descended from above,
And bow'd the heavens most high,
And underneath his feet he cast
The darkness of the sky.

2. On Cherubim and Seraphim
Full royally he rode,

And on the wings of mighty winds
Came flying all abroad.

3. He sat serene upon the floods,
Their fury to restrain;

And he, a Sovereign Lord and King,
For evermore shall reign.

4. This is the God in whom I trust,
His word is purely tried,

He is a sure defence to such
As in his path abide.

PSALM 18. Part III. (C. M.)

Submission of the Heathen to Messiah.

1. THRO' earth the Saviour's name shall spread,

His foes resist no more:

O'er heathen lands proclaim the head;
Let heathen lands adore.

2. Nations, through distant climes unknown,
Their service shall afford:
Shall hear his name, his glory own,
And haste t'obey their Lord.

3. The strangers of the Gentile race,
Shall with his Church attend:
Shall bow submission to his grace,
And in his temples bend.

PSALM 19. Part I. (L. M. D.)

The Heavens declaring the glory of God.

1. THE spacious firmament on high,
With all the blue ethereal sky,
And spangled heav'ns, a shining frame,
Their great Original proclaim.
Th' unwearied sun, from day to day,
Does his Creator's power display,
And publishes to every land
The work of an Almighty hand.

2. Soon as the evening shades prevail,
The moon takes up the wond'rous tale,
And nightly to the list'ning earth,
Repeats the story of her birth.
