5. The sure provisions of my God
Attend me all my days:
O may thy house be my abode,
And all my works be praise!

PSALM 23. Version 11. (8. 8. 8.)

Jehovah the shepherd of his people.

1. THE Lord my pasture shall prepare,
And feed me with a shepherd's care;
His presence shall my wants supply,
And guard me with a watchful eye;
My noonday walks he shall attend,
And all my midnight hours defend.
3. When on the sultry glebe I faint,
Or on the thirsty mountain pant;
To fertile vales and dewy meads
My weary wand'ring steps he leads
Where peaceful rivers soft and slow
Amid the verdant landscape flow.

3. Though in the paths of death I tread
With gloomy horrors overspread,
My steadfast heart shall fear no ill,
For thou, O Lord, art with me still:
Thy friendly crook shall give me aid,
And guide me thro' the dreadful shade.

PSALM 23. Version III. (8. 7.)
The good Shepherd.

1. THE Lord my shepherd is and guide, He will provide with pleasure:

He makes me to lie down at rest
Where grows the best of pasture.

2. Beside the still pure waters, he
Conducteth me with kindness:
And he restores my wand'ring soul,
And makes me whole in sickness.

3. In upright paths and ways most meet,
He guides my feet in going;
And for the sake of his great name,
He keeps the same from straying.

4. Yea, tho' I walk death's gloomy vale,
And view his pale dread shadow:
Thy rod and staff they cheer me still
I'll fear no ill or sorrow.

5. I shall of goodness all my days
Be always a receiver:

And in thy house to praise thee well,
Lord, I will dwell for ever.

PSALM 24. Part 1. (L. M.)
The Citizen of Heaven.

1. THE earth is thine, Jehovah ;-thine, Its peopled realms and wealthy stores: Built on the seas, by power divine,

Thy waves are ramparts to the shores.

2. But who shall reach thine holy place; Or who, O Lord, ascend thine hill? The

pure in heart shall see thy face,

The perfect man that doth thy will.

3. He who to bribes hath clos'd his hand,
To idols never bent the knee,

Nor sworn in falsehood ;-he shall stand
Redeem'd and own'd, and kept by thee.

4. Such are the men-the chosen seed, Who seek the God of Jacob's face, Who trust his word, his promise plead, And triumph in redeeming grace.

PSALM 24. Part II. (c. M.)

The Ascension of Christ.

1. LIFT up your heads, eternal gates,
Unfold to entertain

The King of glory; see! he comes
With his celestial train.

2. Who is the King of glory, who?
The Lord for strength renown'd;
In battle mighty, o'er his foes
Eternal victor crown'd.

3. Lift up your heads, ye heav'nly gates, In state to entertain

The King of glory: lo! he comes
With all his ransom'd train.

4. Who is the King of glory, who?
The Lord of hosts renown'd
Triumphant over sin and death,
Eternal victor crown'd.

PSALM 24. Version II. (L. M.)

The Ascension of Christ.

1. JESUS ascends, his chariot waits, And angels chant the solemn lay: "Lift up your heads ye heavenly gates! "Ye everlasting doors give way!"

2. Loose all your bars of massy light,
And wide unfold th' ethereal scene:
He claims these mansions as his right,
Receive the King of Glory in.

3. "Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord that all his foes o'ercame
The world, sin, death, and hell o'erthrew ;
And Jesus is the Conqueror's name.

4. Lo! His triumphal chariot waits,

And angels chaunt the solemn lay:
"Lift up your heads, ye heavenly gates!
"Ye everlasting doors give way!"

5. "Who is the King of Glory, who?"
The Lord of glorious pow'r possest;
The King of Saints and Angels too,
God over all, for ever blest.

PSALM 25. Part I. (s. M.)

Pardon and Direction sought.
1. SHEW me thy ways, O Lord,
And all thy truth display:
Thou art my Saviour and my God,
My hope from day to day.

2. Thy mercies and thy love,
O Lord recal to mind;
And graciously continue still,
As thou wert ever, kind.

3. Let all my youthful crimes

Be blotted out by thee;

And for thy goodness' sake, O Lord,
In mercy think on me.

4. He those in justice guides,
Who his direction seek;

And in his sacred paths shall lead
The humble and the meek.

5. Through all the ways of God
Both truth and mercy shine,
To such as with religious hearts,
To his blest will incline.

PSALM 25. Part II. (s. M.)

Divine Guidance and Preservation.

MINE eyes and my desire
Are ever to the Lord;

I love to plead his promises,

And rest upon his word.

2. When shall the sov'reign grace

Of my forgiving God,

Restore me from those dang'rous ways,
My wand'ring feet have trod.

3. O lead me in thy truth;
Instruct me in thy law;
Thou God of my salvation, still
To thee my footsteps draw.

4. Preserve my soul from death,
Nor put my hope to shame;
For I have plac'd my only trust
In thy almighty name.

5. With humble faith I wait
To see thy face again:

O be it ne'er of Israel said,
"He sought the Lord in vain."
