PSALM 26. (c. M.)

Godly Sincerity.

1. PROVE me O Lord, my heart, my reins With strictest view

survey;

Thy boundless love my hope sustains,
Thy truth directs my way.

2. I have not sat with wicked men,
Nor with dissemblers gone;
From all that impious deeds devise
My feet abhorrent run.

3. Thine altar, Lord, will I frequent,
To which thy saints repair;

My soul exults with songs of praise,
To tell thy wonders there.

4. Save me, O Lord, and guide my feet,
To walk the heavenly road;
And let me with thy saints above,
For ever bless iny God.

PSALM 27. Part I. (c. M.)

The Church our Delight and Safety.

1. THE Lord of Glory is my light,
And
my salvation too :

God is my strength, nor will I fear
What all my foes can do.

2. One privilege my heart desires ;-
O grant me an abode

Among the churches of thy saints,
The temples of my God!

3. There shall I offer my requests,
And see thy beauty still:-
Shall hear thy messages of love,
And there inquire thy will.

4. When troubles rise and storms appear,
There may his children hide:
God has a strong pavilion, where
He makes my soul abide.

PSALM 27. Part II. (7s.
Refuge in God.

1. WHEN my cries ascend to Thee,
Hear, Jehovah, from afar;
Let thy tender mercies be

Still propitious to my prayer!

2. When Thou bads't me seek thy face, Quickly did my heart reply, Resting on thy Word of Grace, "Thee I'll seek, O Lord, most High !"

3. Glory in thy presence dwells,

Hide no more th' enliv'ning ray:
Nor, while frowning wrath repels,
Cast thy servant far

away.

4. Sweet the hours, to memory dear,
When thy hand its help display'd;
God, my Saviour, still be near,
Nor withdraw thy wonted aid!

5. Had not faith reviv'd my breast,
Oft my soul had sunk in woe;
Now, through life, assur'd I rest
All thy goodness, Lord, to know.

PSALM 28. Part I. (C. M.)

God the strength of his Saints.

1. O LORD, our rock! to Thee we fly,
And pour in prayer our breath;
Bow down, and hear, lest we become
Like them who sleep in death.

2. Regard our supplications, Lord,
The cries that we repeat

With weeping eyes, and lifted hands,
Before thy mercy-seat.

3. Oh! cast us not away with those,
Whose ways are ways of sin;

Whose works proclaim their awful doom,
Ere judgment doth begin.

4. O Thou! the strength of all thy saints,
In whom we live and move;
Still feed us with the bread of life;
Still bless us with thy love.

PSALM 28, Part II. (P. M.)

Triumph and Intercession.

1. NOW my soul its triumph raises,
Bless Jehovah's guardian care!
He will not disdain my praises,
For his grace hath heard my prayer:
He hath all His power reveal'd,
He my strength and He my shield!

2. When in faith on Him I waited,
Then the Lord to help me fled:
Now my heart, with joy elated,
Now my tongue his praise shall spread :
He their strength, his Church to save,
Rais'd th' anointed from the grave!

3. Bless thy church, Almighty Saviour!
Let thy Saints salvation know:
In the pastures of thy favour,
Feed them near thy fold below;

Till thy love thy Church shall own,
Plac'd for ever near thy throne.

PSALM 29. (7s.)

God speaking in thunder.

1. SING, ye sons of men, O sing,
Praise to heav'ns eternal King:
Raise to him some new-taught song:
Power and strength to God belong.
2. Hark! his voice in thunder breaks;
Hush to silence, while he speaks,
Ocean's waves from pole to pole
Hear the awful accents roll.

3. Now the bursting clouds give way,
Now the vivid light'nings play:
Now the wilds, by man untrod,
Tremble at th' approach of God.

4. God the swelling surge commands,
Fix'd his throne for ever stands;

God his people shall increase,

Arm with strength, and bless with peace.

PSALM 30. Version 1.

(L. M.)

Sickness healed, and sorrow removed.

1. THINE anger, Lord, how short its stay!
Slowly it comes, and flies away
Swift as the darkness of the night,
When morning brings the cheering light.
2. My soul again shall bless thy name,
Whose power and love are still the same;
Yea, through thine awful frowns I trace
Unutterable plans of grace.

3. Too oft have I transgress'd thy law,
And forc'd thy Spirit to withdraw:
I mourn again thy love appears
To heal my wounds, disperse my fears.

4. My God thou art immensely kind,
Life in thy favour still I find:
Thy love is an exhaustless store,
O let me grieve, or doubt, no more.

PSALM 30. Version II. (C. M.)

Gratitude for deliverance.

1. THEE, Lord, my thankful soul would bless;

Thee, all my powers adore;

Thy hand hath rais'd me from distress;
Thy grace I will implore.

2. O Lord, my God, opprest with grief,
To thee I breath'd my cry;

Thy healing mercy brought relief,
And dried my tearful eye.
