HYMN 312. (8.8.6.)

FIRST ADVENT.

1. A SAVIOUR! strike aloud the string! Let every quickened sinner sing Redeem'd in Christ alone:

His cleansing blood to me is given,
His Spirit makes me meet for heaven;
The fear of death is gone.

INTERMEDIATE STATE.

2. A Saviour! richest odours raise
From golden vials: prayer and praise
To him with sacred mirth :
He hath redeem'd us by his blood,
And made us kings and priests to God,
And we shall reign on earth.

3. When, when wilt thou avenge our blood
On them that dwell on earth, O God
Most holy just and true?
Rest, rest a little season still
Till all your brethren I fulfil
Who shall be slain like you.

SECOND ADVENT.

4. A Saviour! strike the harp again,
Creation's new. A louder strain
The ransom'd now may sing.
Death the last foe is taken away,
The grave is rifled of his prey,
By Jesus Christ our King.

HYMN 313. (L. M.)

In the Lord have I righteousness.

1. JESUS thy blood and righteousness My beauty are, my glorious dress; 'Mid flaming worlds in these array'd, With joy shall I lift up my head.

2. When from the dust of death I rise
To take my mansion in the skies,
E'en then shall this be all my plea,
'Jesus hath liv'd and dy'd for me.'

3. This spotless robe the same appears
When ruin'd nature sinks in years;
No age can change its glorious hue,
The robe of Christ is ever new.

4. O let the dead now hear thy voice!
Bid Lord thy banish'd ones rejoice;
Their beauty this, their glorious dress,
Jesus, "the Lord our Righteousness."
HYMN 314. (c.M.)

The Lord the believer's portion.

1. FROM pole to pole let others roam,
And search in vain for bliss,

My soul is satisfied at home;
The Lord my portion is.

2. Jesus, who on his glorious throne

Rules heav'n, and earth, and sea,
Is pleas'd to claim me for his own;
He gave himself for me.

3. His person fixes all my love,
His death removes my fear;
And while he pleads for me above,
His arm preserves me here.

4. His word of promise is my food,
His Spirit is my guide;

Thus daily is my strength renew'd,
And all my wants supply'd.

5. For him I count as gain each loss; Disgrace, for him, renown!

Well may I glory in his cross
While he prepares my crown.

HYMN 315. (C.M.)

Christian Friends at parting.

1. DEAR is the bond of christian love That will not let us part;

In body though we far remove,
We still are one in heart.

2. Join'd in one spirit to our Head,
Where he appoints we go;

Firm in his footsteps may we tread,
And do his work below.

3. Oh! let us ever walk in him,
And nothing know beside,
Nothing desire, nothing esteem
But Jesus crucify'd.

4. Though hence we go, another day
Shall friends to friends restore;
Then death shall all be done away,
And we shall part no more.

HYMN 316. (L.M.)

Prayer for a Minister at parting.

1. WITH all thy pow'r, O Lord, defend Him whom we now to thee commend; Our faithful minister secure,

And make him to the end endure. 2. Gird him with all sufficient grace, Give to his footsteps paths of peace; Thy truth and faithfulness fulfil, Preserve him Lord, from every ill. 3. Before his face protection send; O love him, save him to the end; Nor let him as thy pilgrim rove, Without the convoy of thy love. 4. Enlarge, inspire, and fill his heart; In him thy mighty pow'r exert; That thousands yet unborn may praise The wonders of redeeming grace.

HYMN 317. (c.M.)

God's presence light in darkness.

1. MY God, the spring of all my joys,
The life of my delights:
The glory of my brightest days,
And comfort of my nights.

2. In darkest days if thou appear,
My dawning is begun;

Thou art my soul's bright morning star,
And thou my rising sun.

3. Th' op'ning heavens around me shine,
With beams of sacred bliss,
While Jesus shews his love is mine,
And whispers I am his.

4. My soul would leave this heavy clay
At that transporting word,
Mount up with joy the shining way,
To see and praise my Lord.

5. Fearless of hell and awful death,
I'd break through every foe;
The wings of love and arms of faith,
Would bear me conqu'ror through.

HYMN 318. (7s.)

Praise to God before parting.

1. CHRISTIAN Brethren, ere we part, Every voice and every heart

One glad hymn to God should raise,
One high song of grateful praise.

2. Here we all may meet no more:
But there is a happier shore;
There releas'd from toil and pain,
Brethren, we shall meet again.

3. Now to God the Three in One,
Be eternal glory done:

Raise, ye saints, the strain again,
Gladly sound the loud-Amen.

END OF THE HYMNS.
