5. Fear Him, ye saints, and you will then Have nothing else to fear;

Make you his service your delight,
He'll make your wants his care.

PSALM 35. Part 1. (L. M.)
Prayer and Praise for Help.

1. ALMIGHTY God, my cause defend,
O'er me thy guardian shield extend:
Say to my troubled soul, "In me
Thy strength and sure salvation see."

2. And thou, my soul, with awful joy,
On God thy steadfast thoughts employ;
And his salvation taught to prove,
Record the wonders of his love.

3. Lord, whom like thee shall sinners find, For ever just, for ever kind;

Like thee prepar'd th' afflicted poor
From lawless insult to secure?

4. For ever blest be Israel's Lord,

The God by heaven and earth ador'd;
Who loves his servants' cause to plead
And crowns with peace their favor'd head.
PSALM 35. Part II. (P. M.)

Christ exalted to his Glory.

1. LO! the Lord, the Mighty Saviour,
Quits the grave, the throne to claim
Object of his endless favour,

God o'er all exalts his Name;
Those who hate him--

Cloth'd with everlasting shame.

2. Shout for joy, with songs of praises,
Ye who in his Name delight:
Shout-for God our Saviour raises
To his throne in endless might!
'Tis Jehovah-

Crowns our Lord in realms of light!

3. God his servant lifts to glory,

Bids him all his honours share :
Now, Jehovah, we adore Thee,
And thy righteousness declare:
Endless praises-

Shall thy ransom'd church prepare.

PSALM 36. Version 1. (L. M.)

Trust in God's Mercy.

1. THY mercy, Lord, our only hope,
The highest orb of heaven transcends;
Thy sacred truth's unmeasur'd scope
Beyond the spreading sky extends.
2. Thy justice like the hills remains ;
Unfathom'd depths thy judgments are;
Thy providence the world sustains,
And all creation is thy care.

3. The saints shall to thy courts be led,
To banquet on thy love's repast;
And drink, as from the fountain head,
Of joys that shall for ever last.

4. Thee for our fount of life we own;
Light in thy light alone we see;
O hear us from thy heav'nly throne;
O save us, for we trust in thee.

PSALM 36. Version II. (L. M.)

Perfections and Providence of God.

1. HIGH in the heavens, Eternal God, Thy goodness in full glory shines : Thy truth shall break thro' every cloud, Which vails and darkens thy designs. 2. For ever firm thy justice stands,

As mountains their foundations keep: Wise are the wonders of thy hands, Thy Judgments are a mighty deep. 3. Thy Providence is kind and large,

Both man and beast thy bounty share : The whole creation is thy charge, But saints are thy peculiar care. 4. From the provisions of thy house We shall be fed with sweet repast; There mercy like a river flows,

And brings salvation to our taste.

5. Life, like a fountain rich and free,
Springs from the presence of the Lord;
And in thy light our souls shall see
The glories promis'd in thy word.

PSALM 37. Part 1.

(C. M.)

The Cure of Envy and Unbelief.

1. WHY should I vex my soul, and fret,

To see the wicked rise;

Or envy sinners waxing great
By violence and lies?

2. As flowery grass, cut down at noon,
Before the evening fades ;

So shall their glories vanish soon,
In everlasting shades.

3. Then let me make the Lord my trust,
And practise all that's good;
So shall I dwell among the just,
And He'll provide me food.

4. I to my God my ways commit,
And cheerful wait his will;

His hand, which guides my doubtful feet,
Shall my desires fulfil.

5. The meek at last the earth possess,
And are the heirs of heaven:
True riches, with abundant peace,
To humble souls are given.

PSALM 37. Part 11. (8.8. 8.)

The blessedness of the Righteous.

1. THE good man's way is God's delight,
He orders all the steps aright

Of him who moves by his command:
Tho' sometimes he may be distress'd,
Yet he shall ne'er be quite oppress'd,

For God upholds him with his hand.

2. Observe the perfect man with care,
And mark all such as upright are,

Their roughest days in peace shall end :
While on the latter end of those
Who dare God's sacred will oppose,
One common ruin shall attend.

3. God to the just will aid afford, Their only safeguard is the Lord;

Their strength, in time of need, is He:
Because on Him they still depend,
The Lord will timely succour send,
And from the wicked set them free.

PSALM 38. Part I. (C. M.)
Deprecating the wrath of God.

1. THY chastening wrath, O Lord! restrain, Though we deserve it all:

Nor on us let the dreadful storm
Of thy displeasure fall.

2. Our sins, which to a deluge swell,
Our guilty heads o'erflow;

And for our feeble strength to bear
Too vast a burden grow.

3. Lord, our desires are known to thee,
To thee we bring our grief;

Oh! hear the voice of our complaint,
And grant us swift relief.

4. Forsake us not, O Lord our God!
Nor far from us depart:

Make haste to heal our woes, O Thou!
Who our salvation art.

PSALM 38. Part II. (L. M.)
The sufferings of Christ.

1. BENEATH our numerous sins he stood,
Their burden rolling o'er his head;
How great the weight! how vast the load!
The God sustained-the Manhood bled.
