DESCRIPTION OF THE PLATES.

PLATE 1.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS,-Pekin dress with biais figuring a tunic; the corsage embellished with a mantilla ornament crossed in front, a cordelière goes round the waist, hangs low down the skirt; the sleeve is wide in the upper part with gauffered ornaments near the shoulder. Drawn bonnet of organdi.

FIGURE 2.-CARRIAGE DRESS.-Poult de soie dress, made tight in the corsage to fit the shape, elaborately ornamented both in the corsage and down the skirt with double rows of puffing having nœuds at intervals. Rice straw hat turned up at the curtain, and having flowers and lace ornaments.

FIGURE 3.-WALKING DRESS, madehalf high mount. ing at the corsage, with a small band let in, falling from the shoulder in a rounded manner to the ceinture. A long satin mantilla scarf, with black edging, extends to nearly the hem. Italian straw hat and ribbon bows. Half Figures of nearly the same design, having lace ornaments extending from the shoulder to the ceinture at the back that to the right has the addition also of a small collar with lace edging, and same at the shoulders.

Hats in gros de tour and embroidered organdi, and drawn satin capotes, the upper bonnet to the right is seen to extend to a considerable elevation in the brim, and has a quantity of lace ornaments on the crown, as well as ribbon bows; the rest are principally ornamented with ribbons and flowers.

FIGURE 1.-MORNING RECEPTION DRESS.-Muslin dress, corsage made plain in front with only two pipings slanting downwards to the centre of the waistband; the treble cape with blond edging, is embellished in front with a noeud and ends; the ceinture is placed on full and ties with long pendant ends. The lower part of the skirt is ornamented with three flounces. The cap of the same as the dress has a tulle puff bordering. FIGURE 2.-CARRIAGE DRESS.-Pekin dress, close fitting corsage high on the shoulder; sleeves of tolerable width, with several closely arranged vandyked frillings; the flounces exactly to correspond. Drawn capote of gros de Tour.

FIGURE 3.-CARRIAGE DRESS;-Redingote of satin, made high on the neck, a deep ruched frilling surrounds the upper part of the corsage; the sleeve is fitted close to the arm until near the elbow, where, a nœud with ends is fixed, it increases in width from this point to the wrist; ornamented devices appliqué extend down the front of the dress, and similar ones are placed on the sleeves. Hat with marabout feathers.

FIGURE 4.-WALKING DRESS.-Crape peignoir turned back in the front of the corsage with a double cape, a satin border completely goes round the dress, finished off by a scolloped edging. Chip hat and flowers.

The hats are in Tuscan and straw, ornamented with flowers and feathers, A lace ornament on the crown will be observed on the middle one of the lower row which is of an admired and fashionable style.

FIGURE 1.-WALKING DRESS.-Mousseline de laine dress, redingote style, which is formed by an ornament

of the same with a frilled edging. A mantilla border. ing rounded at the back and peaked in front, and a draping in the form of a heart give variety to the plain make of the corsage; the sleeves are ornamented with puffings graduated to the middle, where it comes out suddenly to a globular form. The skirt reaches down to nearly the extremity of the foot. The rice straw hat with lace barbes, has a flowing feather; it is considerably turned up at the back, where it exhibits the formation of the coiffure.

FIGURE 2.-WALKING DRESS.-Levantine dress, made to fit accurately, with a piping down the front and along the bottom which is peaked considerably in front; the sleeve is bouffanted to within a short distance from the wristband. The gipsy hat in chip is ornamented with a rose and foliage.

FIGURE 3.-OPERA DRESS.-Organdi dress, the corsage is ornamented with an embroidered mantilla edging; the sleeve short and bouffanted in two places, divided by ribbon bands having nœuds; corsage closefitting to the waist which terminates in a point. The hair ornamented with roses.

FIGURE 4.-WALKING DRESS.-Scotch Batiste dress, high mounting corsage, sleeve full to the wrist; satin embroidered slip underneath.

The drawn capote, with a rouleua for the border, a row of ribbon bows surmounts the crown.

FIRST HALF FIGURE.-Organdi dress, a mantilla ornament with a rich blond edging, with nœuds as well here as on the sleeve.

SECOND HALF FIGURE.-Embroidered tulle dress, high corsage with epaulettes in close gathers, bouffanted, and with black net ornaments.

The hats of rice straw, gros de Tour, and Tuscan, ornamented with flowers, feathers and ribbons.

PLATE IV.

FIGURE 1.-EVENING DRESS.-Embroidered tulle dress, corsage appliqué with lace ornaments proceeding downwards from the shoulder to the center of the waistband which terminates in a point; the sleeve bouffanted to the elbow and having a ruffle falling low; a deep flounce headed by a rouleau and lace border finishes the skirt. The head dress is ornamented with flowers.

Figure 2.-WALKING DRESS.-Foulard redingote, made low at the neck, stomacher corsage, narrowing to the ceinture, with small scolloped blond edging; the sleeve close at the upper part and near the wrist, bouffanted in the middle; ruffles having an edging similar to the others. Rice straw hat with feathers.

FIGURE 3.-PROMENADE DRESS.-Muslin dress, the corsage half high mounting with ruched mantilla and ruched sleeve; the skirt is laid on full and elegantly embroidered to within a slight distance of the knee, the skirt is caught up at the side by a row of small ribbon nœuds. Tuscan hat ornamented with wheat-ears.

HALF FIGURE.-Levantine dress, the corsage half high mounting, fitted as well as the upper part of the sleeve closely to the shape; the mantilla ornament fixed to the corsage with rosettes.

Hats of Leghorn and organdi, with flower ornaments. Muslin caps embroidered and plain, ornamented with small flowers and ribbons, and lappets extending down the neck to the corsage.
