The forty-eighth regular session of the General Assembly of the State of Indiana, begun and held at the capitol, in the city of Indianapolis, on Thursday, the 9th day of January, A. D., 1873, at 10 o'clock a. m., being the day fixed by law for the meeting of the

same.

The House of Representatives being called to order by the Hon. William K. Edwards, Speaker of the last House of Representaties, by authority of an act of the Legislature, the following members answered to their names and were sworn into office by the Hon. Samuel H. Buskirk, one of the judges of the Supreme Court of the State of Indiana, and took their seats, viz. :

On motion the House proceeded to the election of a viva voce vote.

Mr. Kimball nominated Hon. Wm. K. Edwards, R from Vigo county.

Mr. Richardson nominated Hon. Henry S. Cautho tative from Knox county.

Hon. Wm. K. Edwards having received a majority votes cast, was declared duly elected Speaker of the Representatives for and during the present Legislature.

On motion the House proceeded to the election of Principal Clerk.

Mr. Kimball nominated Hon Cyrus T. Nixon.

Mr. Richardson nominated Hon. E. M. Johnson.

Hon. Cyrus T. Nixon having received a majority of all the votes cast, was declared by the Speaker duly elected Clerk of the House of Representatives.

On motion, the House proceeded to the election of Assistant Clerk.

Mr. Kimball nominated Moses G. McLain.

Mr. Richardson nominated George B. Tebbs.
