24 And the Shooters fhot from off the Wall upon thy Servants, and fome of the King's Servants be dead, and thy Servant Uriah the Hittite is dead alfo.

25 And David faid unto the Meffenger, Thus fhalt thou fay unto Joab, Let not this Thing difplease thee for the Sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy Battle more strong against the City, and overthrow it; and encourage thou him.

26 And when the Wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her Hufband was dead, fhe mourned for her Husband.

27 And when the Mourning was paft, David fent, and fet her to his Houfe, and fhe became his Wife, and bare him a Son but the Thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

5 And David's Anger was greatly kindled against the Man, and he faid to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the Man that hath done this Thing fhall furely die.

6 And he fhall reftore the Lamb four-fold, because he did this Thing, and becaufe he had no Pity.

7 And Nathan faid to David, Thou art the Man. Thus faith the LORD GOD of Ifrael, I have anointed thee King over Ifrael, and I delivered thee out of the Hand of Saul:

8 And I gave thee thy Mafter's Houfe, and thy Mafter's Wives into thy Bofom, and gave thee the Houfe of Ifrael and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee fuch and fuch Things.

6 Behold, thou defireft Truth in the INWARD PARTS: and in the HIDDEN PART thou shalt make me to know

7 Purge me with Hyffop, and I fhall be clean: wafh me, and I shall

be whiter than Snow.

upon thine Altar.

9 Wherefore haft thou defpifed the Commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his fight? thou haft killed Uriah the Hittite with the Sword, and haft taken his Wife to be thy Wife, and haft flain him with the Sword of the Children of Ammon.

10 Now therefore the Sword fhall never depart from thire Houfe;

Houfe; because thou haft defpifed me, and haft taken the Wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy Wife.

I Thus faith the LORD, Behold, I will raife up Evil against thee out of thine own Houfe, and I will take thy Wives before thine Eyes, and give them unto thy Neighbour, and he fhall lie with thy Wives in the fight of this Sun.

12 For thou didft it fecretly but I will do this Thing before all Ifrael, and before the Sun.

13 And David faid unto Nathan, I have finned against the LORD. And Nathan faid unto David, The LORD alfo hath put away thy Sin; thou shalt not die.

14 Howbeit, because by this Deed thou haft given great Occafion to the Enemies of the LORD to blafpheme, the Child alfo that is born unto thee fhall furely die.

15 And Nathan departed unto his Houfe: and the LORD ftruck the Child that Uriah's Wife bare unto David, and it was very fick.

16 David therefore befought GOD for the Child, and David fafted, and went in, and lay all Night upon the Earth.

17 And the Elders of his Houfe arofe, and went to him, to raise him up from the Earth: but he would not, neither did he eat Bread with them.

18 And it came to pafs on the feventh Day, that the Child died and the Servants of David feared to tell him that the Child was dead for they faid, Behold, while the Child was yet alive, we fpake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our Voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the Child is dead?

19 But when David faw that his Servants whispered, David perceived that the Child was dead: therefore David faid unto his Servants, Is the Child dead? and they faid, He is dead.

20 Then David arofe from the Earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his Apparel, and came into the Houfe of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own Houfe, and when he required, they fet Bread before him, and he did eat.

21 Then faid his Servants unto him, What Thing is this that thou haft done? thou didst faft and weep for the Child while it was alive, but when the Child was dead, thou didst rife and eat Bread.

22 And he faid, While the Child was yet alive, I fafted and wept for I faid, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the Child may live?

23 But now he is dead, wherefore fhould I faft? can I bring him back again? I fhall go to him, but he shall not

return to me.

24 And David comforted Bath-fheba his Wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her and fhe bare a Son, and he called his Name Solomon; and the LORD loved him.

25 And he sent by the Hand of Nathan the Prophet; and he called his Name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.

26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the Children of Ammon, and took the royal City.

27 And Joab fent Meffengers to David, and faid, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the City of Waters.

28 Now therefore gather the reft of the People together, and encamp against the City, and take it: left I take the City, and it be called after my Name.

29 And David gathered all the People together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.

CHAP. XIII.

› Ammon loving Tamar, by Jonadab's Counsel feigning himself fick, ravisheth her: 15 He hateth her, and turneth her away: 23 Is flain by Abfalom.

CHA P. XIV.

Foab fuborning a Widow of Tekoah to incline the King's Heart to fetch home Abfalom, 23 bringeth him to Jerusalem.

CHAP. XV.

1 Abfalom ftealeth the Hearts of Ifrael: 10 He maketh a Confpiracy. 15 David fleeth from Jerusalem.

Ver. 1 ND it came to pass after this, that Abfalom prepared him Chariots, and Horfes, and fifty Men

to run before him.

2 And Abfalom rofe up early, and ftood befide the Way of the Gate and it was fo, that when any Man, that had a Controverfy, came to the King for Judgment, then Abfalom

called unto him, and faid, Of what City art thou? And he faid, Thy Servant is of one of the Tribes of Ifrael.

3 And Abfalom faid unto him, See, thy Matters are good and right, but there is no Man deputed of the King to hear thee.

4 Abfalom faid moreover, Oh that I were made Judge in the Land, that every Man which hath any Suit or Caufe, might come unto me, and I would do him Juftice.

5 And it was fo, that when any Man came nigh to him to do him Obeifance, he put forth his Hand, and took him and kiffed him.

6 And on this manner did Abfalom to all Ifrael that came to the King for Judgment: fo Abfalom ftole the Hearts of the Men of Ifrael.

7 And it came to pass after forty Years, that Abfalom faid unto the King, I pray thee, let me go and pay my Vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD in Hebron.

8 For thy Servant vowed a Vow while I abode at Gefhur in Syria, faying, If the LORD fhall bring me again indeed to Jerufalem, then I will ferve the LORD.

9 And the King faid unto him, Go in Peace. So he arofe and went to Hebron.

10 But Abfalom fent Spies throughout all the Tribes of Ifrael, faying, Affoon as ye hear the Sound of the Trumpet, then ye fhall fay, Abfalom reigneth in Hebron.

11 And with Abfalom went two hundred Men out of Jerufalem, that were called, and they went in their SIMPLICITY, and they knew not any thing.

12 And Abfalom fent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's Counfeller: and the Confpiracy was ftrong; for the People increafed continually with Abfalom.

13 And there came a Meffenger to David, faying, The Hearts of the Men of Ifrael are after Abfalom.
