The man, who in this steadfast course
Has grace and peace insured,

When earth's foundations fail, shall stand
By Providence secured.

N. V. PSALM 16. C. M.
PROTECT me, Lord, from earthly cares,
And shield my soul from harm;
Because my trust will I repose
On thine almighty arm.

My soul all hope but thine does slight,
All help but thine disown;
And yet no deeds of mine deserve
The goodness thou hast shewn!

Then let me ever bless the Lord,
Whose precepts give me light;
Whose secret counsels strength afford
In sorrow's darkest night.

He shall the paths of life display,
That to his presence lead;
Where pleasures dwell without allay,
And joys that never fade.

PSALM 18. L. M.

No change of times shall ever shock
My firm affection, Lord, to thee;
For thou hast always been my rock,
A fortress, and defence to me.
Thou my deliverer art, my God,
My trust is in thy mighty power:
Thou art my shield from sins abroad,-
At home, my safeguard and my tower.

To thee will I address my prayer,
To whom all praise we justly owe;
So shall my life, by thy kind care,
Be freed from dangers here below.

N. V. PSALM 19. C. M.
GOD's perfect law converts the soul,
Reclaims from false desires;
With sacred wisdom his sure word
The ignorant inspires.

But what frail man can tell how oft
He does from virtue fall?

O cleanse me from my secret faults,
Thou God, that know'st them all.
So shall my prayer and praises be
With thy acceptance blest ;
And I, secure in thy defence,
My strength and Saviour, rest.

C. M.

N. V. PSALM 20.
THE Lord to our requests attend,
And hear us in distress:
The name of Jacob's God defend,
And grant our prayers success.
Lord, in thy sanctuary appear;
Thy strength from Zion give:
Regard our lowliest offering there;
Our sacrifice receive.

Some trust in steeds for war designed;
On chariots some rely :--

But we will surely call to mind
The power of God most High.

To thy salvation, Lord, for aid,
We cheerfully repair,

With banners, in thy name displayed,
"The God that heareth prayer.'

N. V.

PSALM 22. C. M.

ON God our ancestors relied,

And his deliv'rance found;
With pious confidence they prayed,
And with success were crown'd.
Withdraw not thou so far from us,
When troubles are so nigh:

O send us help; thy help, on which
We can alone rely.

Then in thy temple we'll declare
The triumphs of thy name:
In presence of assembled saints
Thy mercies we'll proclaim.

PSALM 23. C. M.

THE Lord himself, the mighty Lord,
Vouchsafes to be my guide;

The Shepherd, by whose constant care
My wants are all supplied.

In pastures green he makes me feed,
And gently there repose;

Then leads me to cool shades, and where
Refreshing water flows.

"Tis he my wandering soul reclaims,
And, by his heavenly grace,
Instructs with humble zeal to keep
In his most holy ways.

I walk the gloomy vale of death,
Yet walk from terror free!

The Lord is there, his rod and staff
Support and comfort me.

O. v. PSALM 24.

C. M.

YE gates, and everlasting doors,
Lift up your heads on high!

Then shall the King of glorious state
Come in triumphantly.

Who is the King of glorious state?
The great and mighty Lord!

The Lord of strength, in battle strong,
Almighty in his word.

Ye gates, and everlasting doors,
Lift up your heads on high!
Then shall the King of glory come
In state triumphantly.

Who is the King of glorious state?
The Lord of Hosts it is!

The kingdom, and the royalty
Of glorious state is his.

o. v.

PSALM 25.

I LIFT my heart to thee,

S. M.

My God, and guide most just,

O let me not confounded be:

In thee I've put my trust.

Direct me in thy truth;

Teach me thy paths, I pray; Thou art my Saviour, and my God, O shew me, Lord, thy way.

Not after my deserts,

Let me compassion find;
But of thine own benignity
O bear me in thy mind.
Thy mercies manifold
Remember, Lord, above!
In pity thou art plentiful,
And plentiful in love.

N. V. Second Version.
THY mercies, and thy love,
O Lord, recall to mind:
And graciously continue still,
As thou wert ever, kind.
His tenderness and truth

S. M.

The righteous Lord displays, In bringing wand'ring sinners home, And teaching them his ways.

Let all my former sins

Be blotted out by thee:

And for thy wondrous goodness' sake,

In mercy think on me.

Whoe'er with humble trust

To Heav'n his duty pays,
Shall find the Lord a faithful guide
In all his earthly ways.

PSALM 27. C. M.

WHOM Should I fear, since God to me
Is saving health, and aid?

If strongly he my soul supports,
Why should I be afraid?
