Henceforth within his courts to dwell
I earnestly desire;

His wondrous mercy there to view,
And all his will inquire.

Continue, Lord, to hear my voice,
Whene'er to thee I cry;

In mercy all my prayers receive,
Nor my requests deny.

God's time with patient hope await,
And he'll inspire thy breast

With inward strength; be strong in faith,
And leave to him the rest.

PSALM 29.

C. M.

GIVE glory to God's holy name,
And honour him alone;
Give worship to God's majesty
Around his holy throne.

His voice doth rule the waters all,
As he himself doth please;
He doth prepare the thunder-cloud,
And governs all the seas.

This Lord will give his people strength,
Whereby their joys increase;
And he will bless his chosen flock
With everlasting peace.

N. V.

PSALM 30. C. M.

Now to the courts of God, ye saints,
With strains of praise repair;
There to commemorate his truth,
And providential care.

His wrath has but a moment's reign;
His favour, no decay;

Our night of grief is recompensed
With joy's returning day.

'Tis done! Thou hast my mournful scene
To sacred gladness turned;
Invested me with robes of light,

Who late in darkness mourned!
Exalted thus, I'll gladly tell
Thy love in grateful song;
And as thy favour boundless is,
Thy boundless praise prolong.

PSALM 31. C. M.

WE join not those, who will not part
From sins to be abhorred;

While they on trifles set their heart,
Our trust is in the Lord.

Pluck thou our feet from out the snare
The world for us has laid;

Thou art our strength; and all our care
Is for thy mighty aid.

Into thy hands we now commit

Our souls, which are thy due: Because thou hast redeemed them, O Lord, our God most true.

N. V. Second Version.

WHATE'ER events betide,
Thy wisdom times them all;

S. M.

Then, Lord, thy servants safely hide,
Whenever ills befall.

C

The brightness of thy face

To us, O Lord, disclose;
And let thy mercies still increase,
As still increase our woes.

Ye, that on Heav'n rely,
Courageously proceed;

For God will still your hearts supply
With strength in time of need.

N. V.

PSALM 32. L. M.

He's blessed, whose sins have pardon gained,
No more in judgment to appear;
Whose guilt remission has obtained,
And whose repentance is sincere.
No sooner I my wound disclosed,
The guilt that tortured me within,
But thy compassion interposed,
And mercy's healing balm poured in!
Thy favour, Lord, in all distress,
My tower of refuge I must own;
Thou shalt each secret fear suppress,
And me with songs of triumph crown.
In God's instruction then confide,

Ye, that would truth's safe path descry;
Your ways the Lord will surely guide,
And keep you with a watchful eye.

N. V.

PSALM 33. C. M.

LET all the just to God with joy
Their thankful voices raise,

For well the righteous it becomes
To celebrate his praise.

For faithful is the word of God,
His works with truth abound;
He justice loves, and all the earth
Is with his goodness crown'd.
By his almighty voice at first
Heav'n's glorious arch was rear'd;
And all the wonders of the earth
At his command appeared.

How happy then are they, to whom
This Lord for God is known!
Whom he amidst a sinful world
Shall welcome as his own!

N. V.

PSALM 34.

C. M.

THRO' all the changing scenes of life,
In trouble and in joy,

The praises of my God shall still
My heart and tongue employ.

O make but trial of his love,
Experience will decide.

How bless'd are they, and only they,
Who in his truth confide.

Deliv'rance to his saints he gives,
When his relief they crave;

He's nigh to heal the broken heart,
The contrite spirit save.

The crooked paths of vice decline,

And piety pursue :—

This gives more peace, where 'tis begun, And will, when lost, renew.

O. V. PSALM 35. C. M.
GIRD on thy sword, Lord, stop the way;
My heart's strong foes withstand:
That thou unto my soul mayest say,
"I am thy help at hand.”

Awake, arise, and walk abroad,
Defend me as I fight:

Plead thou my cause, O Lord, my God,
And aid me with thy might.

O let my soul with heart and voice
In God's own love increase;
That in the Lord I may rejoice,
And in his saving grace.

And then will I give thanks to thee
Before the church always:
And where th' assembled people be,
There will I sing thy praise.

N. V.

PSALM 36. L. M.

O LORD! thy mercy, my sure hope,
Above the heavenly orb ascends;
Thy sacred truth's unmeasur'd scope
Beyond the spreading sky extends.
Thy justice, like the hills, remains,
Unfathom'd depths thy judgments are;
Thy providence the world sustains,
The whole creation is thy care.
Since of thy goodness all partake,
With what assurance should the just
Thy shelt'ring wings their refuge make,
And saints in thy protection trust!
