PSALM 67.

S. M.

N. V.

To bless thy chosen race,

In mercy, Lord, incline:

And cause the brightness of thy face
On all thy saints to shine.

Thus shall thy wondrous way

Thro' all the world be known;
While distant lands their tribute pay,
And thy salvation own.

Let differing nations join
To celebrate thy fame;

Let all the world, O Lord, combine
To praise thy glorious name.
Then God upon our land

Shall heavenly blessings shower;
And all the world shall stand in awe
Of his almighty power

N. V.

PSALM 80. L. M.

THOU brought'st a vine from Egypt's land,
And casting out the heathen race,
Didst plant it with thine own right hand,
And firmly fix it in its place.

To thee, O God of hosts, we pray;

Thy former goodness now renew; From heav'n, thy throne, this vine survey, And visit it with heavenly dew.

Behold the vineyard, made by thee,

Which thy right hand did guard so long; And keep that branch from peril free, And make it in thy service strong.

Do thou convert us, Lord. do thou
The lustre of thy face display :-
And every ill we suffer now,

Like scattered clouds, shall pass away.

N. V. PSALM 86. C. M.
ALL shall confess thee great,—and great
The wonders thou hast done;
Confess thee God, the God supreme;
Confess thee God alone!

Thy boundless mercies show'r'd on me
Transcend my power to show;
How oft hast thou redeem'd my soul
From lowest depths of woe!
Teach me thy way, O Lord, and I
From truth shall ne'er depart;
In rev'rence to thy sacred name
Devoutly fix my heart.

Thee will I praise, almighty Lord,
Praise thee with heart sincere ;
And to thine everlasting name
Eternal trophies rear.

N. V. PSALM 89. L. M.
THY mercies, Lord, shall be my song;
My song on them shall ever dwell;
To ages yet unborn, my tongue
Thy never-failing truth shall tell.

In thee the sov❜reign right remains
Of earth and heav'n! Thee, Lord, alone,
The world, and all that it contains,
Their Maker and Preserver own.

Mighty thine arm, and strong thine hand! Yet, Lord, thou dost with justice reign: Possess'd of absolute command,

Thou love and mercy dost maintain. Then in thy strength will we advance, Whose blessings from thy favour spring; The Lord of Hosts is our defence; And Israel's God, our Israel's King.

PSALM 90. C. M.

THOU, Lord, hast been our refuge still
From age to age our God!
Before was made mountain or hill
The earth and world abroad!

The lasting of a thousand years,
What is it in thy sight!

As yesterday it doth appear,

Or like a watch by night!

And what is man? our moments waste!
Thereof none soon remain !
Our years consume as doth a blast,
And are not called again!

Instruct us, Lord, to count and try
How long our days remain :
That so we may our hearts apply
True wisdom to attain.

O. V.

PSALM 91. C. M.

WHOE'ER within the secret place
Of God most high doth dwell,
Under the shadow of his grace
He shall be safe and well.

"Thou art my hope, and my strong hold," I to the Lord will say ;

[ocr errors]

My God thou art :-in thee will I
My whole affiance stay."

66

He with his wings shall cover thee,
And keep thee safely there :

His grace and truth thy guard shall be,
Safer than shield or spear.

And why?-O Lord, I fix alone
My hopes secure on thee;
In the Most High I put my trust;
My sure defence is he.

N. V. PSALM 95. L. M.

O COME, loud anthems let us sing,
Loud thanks to our almighty King:
For we our voices high should raise,
When our salvation's Rock we praise.
O, let us to his courts repair,

And bow with adoration there :
Down on our knees devoutly fall,
And on the great Creator call.

The rolling ocean's vast abyss,

And all the depths of earth are his : The strength of hills, that reach the skies, Subjected to his empire lies.

This God is our's; our Shepherd he;
His sons, and pasture-sheep, are we:
Let us, a faithful flock, draw near,
To-day his heavenly voice to hear.

N. V.

PSALM 98. C. M.

SING to the Lord a new-made song,
Who wondrous things has done;
With his right hand, and holy arm,
The conquest he has won.

Our Lord has thro' th' astonished world
Displayed his saving might,
And made his righteous acts appear
Before the heathen's sight.

Of Israel's house his love and truth
Have ever mindful been :
Wide earth's remotest ends the power
Of Israel's God have seen.
Let therefore earth's inhabitants
Their grateful voices raise,
Henceforth, with universal joy,
To sound their Maker's praise.

O. v. PSALM 100. L. M.

ALL people that on earth do dwell,
Sing to the Lord with cheerful voice;
Him serve with fear; his praises tell;
Come ye before him and rejoice.
Be sure the Lord is God indeed ;

Without our aid he did us make;
We are his flock; he doth us feed;
And for his sheep he doth us take.
O enter then his gates with praise;
Approach with joy his courts unto:
Praise, laud, and bless his name always,
For it is seemly so to do.
