Then in assurance should we walk, From all confusion free; Convinced, in faith, that all our ways With thy commands agree.

N. V.

Second Part.

C. M.

My soul, oppressed with worldly care,
Close to the dust doth cleave;
Revive me, Lord, and let me here
Thy promised help receive.

Thy constant blessing, Lord, bestow
To cheer my drooping heart;
To me, according to thy word,
Thy saving health impart.
If in my heart, there closely hid,
Thy word, my treasure lies,
I need not fear its timely aid,
When sinful thoughts arise.
Then may I trust to travel on,
From sin's incumbrance free,
When I resolve with God's own law
To make my life agree.

N. V. Third Part.

C. M.

O LORD, my God, my portion thou

And sure possession art;

Thy words I steadfastly resolve

To treasure in my heart.

With all the strength of warm desire
I did thy grace implore:
Disclose, according to thy word,
Thy mercy's boundless store.

E

'Tis good for me that I have felt, Affliction's chast’ning rod ;

That I might humbly learn, and keep, The statutes of my God.

N. V.

Fourth Part. C. M,

THY word is to my feet a lamp,

The way of truth to show;

A watch-light to point out the course
In which I ought to go.

On me, thus walking in thy love,
Thy sacred grace bestow;
That of thy testimonies I

The full extent may know.
These testimonies I have made
My heritage and choice;
For they, when other comforts fail,
My drooping heart rejoice.
My hiding-place, my refuge-tow'r,
My shield, the mighty Lord,
I firmly anchor all my hopes
On thy unerring word.

N. V. Fifth Part.

C. M.

WITH my whole heart to God I call,
Lord, hear my earnest cry;
And I, thy statutes to perform,

Will all that heart apply.

Tho' trouble, anguish, doubts and dread

To compass me unite,

Beset with peril, still I make

Thy precepts my delight.

Tho' danger's nigh, my comfort is
Thou, Lord, art yet more near;

Thou, whose commands are righteous all, Thy promises sincere.

Then plead my cause, thou gracious God,
Thy timely aid afford;

With beams of mercy quicken me,
According to thy word.

PSALM 121.

C. M.

To Sion's hill I lift my eyes,
From thence expecting aid,
From Sion's hill, and Sion's God,

Who earth and heav'n has made.

There rest, my soul, in safety thou,
Thy Guardian will not sleep;
The watchful eye, that Israel sees,
Will Israel ever keep.

Sheltered beneath th' Almighty wings,
Thou shalt securely rest;

Nor scorching sun, nor moon's chill beam
By day or night molest.

At home, abroad, in peace, in war,
Thy God shall thus defend;
Conduct thee thro' life's pilgrimage,
Safe to thy journey's end.

N. V. PSALM 122. C. M.
O 'Twas a joyful sound to hear
The tribes devoutly say,—
"Up, Israel, to the temple haste,
"And keep thy festal day :

"At Salem's courts we must appear,
"With our assembled powers,
"In strong and beauteous order ranged,
"United, as her towers."-

Thus to the house of God may still
The saints of God repair,
Before his throne to celebrate

His name with praise and prayer.
May peace within these sacred walls
A constant guest be found;

With plenteous joy, and prosp'ring grace, God's palaces be crowned.

N. V.

PSALM 125. C. M.

WHо place on Sion's God their trust,

Like Sion's rock shall stand; Like her immoveably be fixed By his Almighty hand.

Look how the hills on every side

Jerusalem enclose:

So stands our God around his saints,
To guard them from their foes.
Have mercy, righteous Lord, on those
Who strength of man reject;
The heart, which on thy grace relies,
May grace divine protect.

N. V.

PSALM 126. C. M.

WHEN Sion's God his sons redeemed

From Sin's captivity,

It seem'd at first but as a dream

Of what we wished to see.

But soon in joy's accustomed strain
We did our voice employ,

And sung our great Restorer's praise
In thankful hymns of joy.

Bring back to thee thy remnant, Lord, I
Strike off the captive's bands,
More welcome than refreshing show'rs
To parch'd and thirsty lands:

That we, whose work commenc'd in tears, May see the season come,

When we shall bind our sheaves, and bring The joyful harvest home.

N. V.

PSALM 127.

C. M.

We build with fruitless toil, unless
The Lord the house sustain ;
Unless the Lord the city keep,
The watchman wakes in vain.
In vain we rise at early day,
And late to rest repair,
Allow no respite to our toil,

And eat the bread of care :

Supplies of life, and peaceful sleep,
He on his saints bestows;

He crowns their labours with success;
Their nights with sweet repose.

O. V. PSALM 128.

C. M.

BLESSED art thou, that fearest God,

And walkest in his ways,

For of thy labour thou shalt eat,
And happy be thy days.
