HYMN 27. P. M.

Lo, he comes! let earth adore him ;
'Tis the God of grace and truth!
Prepare the Saviour's way before him ;
Make the rugged places smooth:
Hallelujah, mighty Lord :

Great thy work, and our reward.

Let the valleys all be raised;

Let us make the crooked straight; Let the mountains he abased;

All, that's worldly, change its state! Hallelujah, make a road,

Make a highway for our God.

Thro' the desert God is going,

Thro' the desert waste and wild, Where no goodly plants are growing, Where no sacred pastures smiled: But the desert shall be glad, And with blessings shall be clad. From the hills and lofty mountains Streams of grace shall largely flow, There the Lord will open fountains, Thence supply the plains below. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord.

HYMN 28. L. M.

Be still, my heart; these anxious cares
To thee are burthens, thorns, and snares ;
They cast dishonour on the Lord,
And contradict his gracious word.

Brought safely by his hand thus far,
Why wilt thou now give place to fear?
How canst thou want, if Christ provide,
Or lose thy way with such a Guide'?
Did ever trouble yet befal,

And he refuse to hear thy call?
And has he not his promise pass'd
That faith shall overcome at last?
Tho' rough and thorny be the road,
It leads thee home apace to God:
Then count thy present trials small,
For heav'n will make amends for all.

HYMN 29. L. M.

HAPPINESS, inspiring name !

Where its dwelling? tell me where ? Learning, pleasure, wealth, and fame, All exclaim, "It is not here!"

God to serve, and Christ to know,
Constitute our bliss below;
God to see, and Christ to love,
Constitute our bliss above.

Lord, it is not life to live,

If thy presence thou deny : Lord, if thou thy presence give, 'Tis no longer death to die.

HYMN 30. L. M.

APPROACH, ye sinners, to the Lord,
In Christ to paradise restor❜d;
His proffer'd benefits embrace,
The plenitude of gospel grace:

A pardon written with his blood,
The favour and the peace of God,
The seeing eye, the feeling sense,
The mystic joy of penitence;
The godly grief, the healing smart;
The meltings of a broken heart;
The tears that tell your sins forgiv'n;
The sighs that waft the soul to heav'n.

HYMN 31. P. M.

LIGHT of those whose dreary dwelling
Borders on the shades of death,
Come, and by thy love revealing
Dissipate the clouds beneath,
Hallelujah!

Dissipate the clouds beneath.
Still we wait for thine appearing,
Life and joy thy beams impart,
Chasing all our fears, and cheering
Every poor benighted heart:
Hallelujah!

Cheer each poor benighted heart.
By thy all-restoring merit

Every burden'd soul release;
Every weary, wand'ring spirit
Guide into thy perfect peace.

Hallelujah!

Guide us to thy perfect peace.

HYMN 32. P. M.

REJOICE evermore, with angels above,
In Jesus's power, in Jesus's love:

With glad exultation your triumph proclaim, Ascribing salvation to God and the Lamb.

Thou, Lord, our relief in trouble hast been,
Hast sav'd us from grief, hast sav'd us from sin;
The pow'r of the Spirit has set our hearts free,
And now we inherit all fulness in thee.

All fulness of peace, all fulness of joy,
And spiritual bliss, that never shall cloy;
To us it is given in Jesus to know,
A kingdom of heaven, a heaven below.

HYMN 33. C. M.

My times of sorrow and of joy,
Great God, are in thy hand;
My sweetest comforts come from thee,
And go at thy command.

If thou shouldst take them all away,
Yet would I not repine;
Before they were possess'd by me,
They were entirely thine.

Nor would I ever love thee less,
Tho' all the world were gone;
But seek enduring happiness

In thee, and thee alone.

Here, pain our best delight attends, 'Tis honey mixed with gall; 'Midst changing scenes, and dying friends, Be thou my All in All.

HYMN 34.

REJOICE in Jesu's birth,

S. M.

From heav'n" a Son is given;" "To us a child is born" on earth,

Who made both earth and heaven.

He reigns above the sky,
This universe sustains;

The God supreme, the Lord most high,
The King Messiah reigns.

Th' Almighty God is he,

Author of heavenly bliss: The Father of eternity,

The glorious" Prince of peace."

HYMN 35, C. M.

SAVIOUR, Source of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing thy grace;
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for ceaseless songs of praise.
Teach me some melodious measure,
Sung by happy saints above;
Fill my soul with sacred pleasure,
While I sing redeeming love.
Thou didst seek me when a stranger,
Wandering from the fold of God;
Thou to save me from the danger,
Didst redeem me with thy blood.
By thy hand restored, defended,
Safe thro' life thus far I'm come;
Safe, O Lord, when life is ended,
Bring me to my heavenly home.

HYMN 36. L. M.

CHILD of the dust, I heard thee mourn,"Will God forsake, and not return? "Unhealed my wounds, my woes unknown, "Down to the grave, I sink alone.”
