his mother's sister, Mary the wife of 11 Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and u the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, 1 Woman, behold thy son!

27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her y unto his own home.

28 T After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, 'that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and a they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, b It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, c because it was the preparation,d that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith "came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true; and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

30 For these things were done, 'that the Scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another Scripture saith, sThey shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 1 h And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly 'for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus : and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39 And there came also kNico

demus, (which at the first came to Jesus by night,) and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound might.

40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and 1 wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.

42 mThere laid they Jesus therefore n because of the Jews' preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.

CHAPTER XX.

1 3tmtj Cometh to the sepulchre: 3 BO do Peter ami John, ignorant of the resurrection. 11 Jesus appeareth to Marjf Magdalene, 19 and to his disciples. 24 The incredulity, and confession of Thomas. 30 The Scripture is sufficient to salvation. rpiIE »first day of the week I Cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the b other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

3 c Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw dthe linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

7 And ethe napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

9 For as yet they knew not the 'Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24 t But Thomas, one of the twelve,1 called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails,

have taken away my Lord, and and thrust my hand into his side, I know not where they have laid I will not believe,

him.

14 hAnd when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and 1 knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith upto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not vet ascend

ed to my Father: but go to k my I believed,
brethren, and say unto them, 'I
ascend unto my Father, and your
Father; and to "my God,"and
your God.

18 "Mary Magdalene came and
told the disciples that she had
seen the Lord, and that he had
spoken these things unto her.

19 t "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he
shewed unto them his hands and
his side, P Then were the disci-

Eles glad, when they saw the
ord.

21 Then said Jesus to them
again, Peace be unto you: las
my Father hath sent me, even so
send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23 r Whosesoever sins ye remit,

20 T And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and 1 reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: "blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have

30 1i 'And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

31 y But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; *and that believing ye might have life through his name.

CHAPTER XXI. 1 Christ apj>earing again to his disciples was known ofthemwnthe great draught of fishes. 12 lie dineth with them: \S earnestly commandeth I'eter to feed his lambs and sheep: 18 foretelleth him of' his death: 22 relmketh his crtriosity touching John. 25 The conclusion.

AFTER these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in I Galilee, and bthe sons of Zebe'dec, and two other of his dis1 ciples.

j 3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They

they are remitted unto them; I went forth, and entered into a ST. JOnN.

ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore; but the disciples cknew not that it was Jesus.

5 Then d Jesus saith unto them, 1 Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.

6 And he said unto them,' Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship, (for they were

| not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

12 Jesus saith unto them, sCome and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

14 This is now >"the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

15 U So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the

second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. 'He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, mm of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, kthou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

18 'Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

19 This spake he, signifying "by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple "whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that bctraveth thee?

21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry "till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die; yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

24 This is the disciple which testifleth of these things, and wrote these things: and P we know that his testimony is true.

25 land there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, r I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

THE

ACTS OF THE APOSTLES.

CHAPTER I.

1 Christ, preparing his apostles to the be holding of his ascension, oathereth them together into the mount Ohret, commandet/i thenltoesjiect in Jerusalem the sending down of the Holy Ghost, jtromiseth qfter few days tosend it: by virtue whereof they should be witnesses unto him, even to the utmost parts of theearth. VAJierhit ascension they are. warned by two angels to de}>art, and to set their minds uiion his second coming, 12 They accordingly return, and, giving themselves to prayer, choose Matthias apostle in the place of Judas.

rpiIE former treatise have I I made, O » Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 b Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost chad given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 J To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 e And, 1 being assembled together with (Ami, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, r which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

5 e For John truly baptized with water; hbut ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, 'Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

7 And he said unto them, 1 It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

8 m But ye shall receive I power, "after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and "ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

9 pAnd when he had spoken

these things, while they beheld, qhe was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them r in white apparel;

11 Which also said, 'Yemen of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

12 "Then returned they upto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

13 And when they were come in, they went up * into an upper room, where abode both y Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphcus, and z Simon Zelotes, and a Judas the brother of James.

14 b These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with c the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with d his brethren.

15 IT And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number eof names together were about a hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren, this Scripture must needs have been ful

[ tilled, 'which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before

| concerning Judas, s which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17 For i> he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of I this ministry.

18 k Now this man purchased a field with 1 the reward of inlq

laity; and falling headlong, he i burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called, in

their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, mLet his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and, "His Ibishopriek let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companicd with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

22 0 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that Phe was taken up from us, must one be ordained i to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called r Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, I which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

2") t That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

20 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias ; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

CHAPTER II.

1 The apostles. Jilted with the Holy Ghost, and speaking divers languages, are admired bit some, and derided be others. 14 Whom Peter disproving, and shewing that the apostles spake be the power of the Holy Ghost, that Jr.su* wax risen from the dead, ascended into heaven, had poured down the same Holy Ghost, and was the Messias, a man known to them to be approved of God by his miracles, wonders, and signs, and not crucified without his determinate counsel and foreknowledge: 57 he baptizeth a great number that were converted. 41 Who afterwards devoutly anil chavitably converse together: the apostles working many miracles, and God daily increasing his church.

AND when athe day of Pentecost was fully come, Hhey were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and cit filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And dthey were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began eto speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at

Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now twhen this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were 'confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak fGalileans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamitcs, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, arid in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 If But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, e seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

10 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 hAnd it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,1I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and kyour daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; 1 and they shall prophesy:

l'J "And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that0 whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
