ROYAL CALEDONIAN ASYLUM,

CALEDONIAN ROAD, HOLLOWAY, LONDON.

FOUNDED, 1808.-INCORPORATED, 1815,"

For Supporting and Educating the Children of Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines, Natives of Scotland, who have died or been disabled in the service of their Country, and of Indigent Scotch Parents resident in London.

PATRONESS.

HER MOST GRACIOUS MAJESTY THE QUEEN.

PATRON.

HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE CONSORT.

PRESIDENT.

HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH AND QUEENSBERRY, K.G., &c. &c.

THE COURT OF DIRECTORS most earnestly request the attention of the

Scottish Nobility and Gentry, and of all others connected with Scotland, to this, the only Charitable Scottish Institution of the kind in England. Since its foundation 526 Boys and 115 Girls have been clothed, educated, and maintained in the Asylum. It contains at the present time 65 Boys and 53 Girls, and is capable of considerable extension should the state of its funds permit. It depends entirely upon voluntary contributions, and the most anxious care is taken that these shall be expended in the most advantageous manner for the benefit of the Charity. It has hitherto received the countenance of nearly all the members of the Royal Family. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales has made himself a Perpetual Governor, and holds for life the right of maintaining one child in the School. The leading members of the Scottish Nobility and Gentry have rendered it the most beneficent support. The President and his Grace's Family have ever evinced a warm interest in its welfare, and have been munificent contributors to its funds. His Grace the Duke of Hamilton, the Dukes of Argyll, Montrose, and Roxburgh have lent their powerful aid not only in a pecuniary point of view, but also by presiding at its festivals, where they pleaded most successfully in its behalf. His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge presided at the festival of 1856, and liberally contributed to the funds. General Sir Colin Campbell, who presided at the last Anniversary, stated that it afforded him much pleasure to see the children of the soldiers he had often led to battle and victory receiving the benefits of such an Institution. Upwards of forty of the children now in the Asylum are the orphans of those brave Scottish soldiers who fell during the Crimean war. The Directors are most anxious to afford the same protection to the orphan children of those Scottish soldiers who have fallen in battle, who have died in sickness, or who may have been cruelly murdered in cold blood by the mutineers in India during the present sanguinary struggle, but to carry this into effect they will require a large increase of means. Children are usually admitted by ballot, but in consequence of the munificent collection carried to the account of the Crimean Fund, and the allowance made towards the maintenance of Scottish soldiers' orphans by the Patriotic Fund, the forty children alluded to were admitted by presentation and without ballot. If a fund of the same nature could be raised, or subscribers would come forward with the same alacrity as upon that occasion, the Directors would be enabled to receive at least an equal number of children, orphans of the gallant Scottish soldiers who have so bravely supported the honour of their names and country in India. The Court of Directors therefore earnestly call upon their fellow countrymen in the Highlands, the Lowlands, and wherever Scotchmen are found, to assist in this great work of love and charity, to enable them to open wide the doors of the Institution, and to call within the shelter of its fostering walls the orphan child of him who has suffered disease, and hunger, and thirst, and eventually died in his country's cause.

A Donation of Ten Guineas constitutes a Governor for life. A Subscription of Two Guineas constitutes a Guardian, with the privilege of two votes at elections of children. A Subscription of One Guinea annually entitles the subscriber to one vote.

Donations and Subscriptions will be thankfully received by Messrs. COUTTS, Bankers to the Institution, 59, Strand; by Messrs. FORBES, FORBES, and Co., 9, King William-street, City; by Mr. CHARLES EDWARD STEWART, Collector, 32, New Broad Street, City; and by the SECRETARY or MATRON at the Asylum.

November 28th, 1857.
