An ANNUAL CATALOGUE of BOOKS (including New Editions) published during the Year 1848; containing the Title, Size, Price, Date of Publication, and Publisher's Name: with Reference Numbers to the full title of every book in the PUBLISHERS' CIRCULAR, forming altogether a most useful appendage to the Library Table of every Literary Society, and a complete Bookseller's Assistant to the publications of the Year.

BOOKSELLERS' PROVIDENT INSTITUTION. Abstract of the Report of the Board of Directors for the Year 1848, read and adopted at the Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Institution, at the Albion Tavern, on Thursday, the 8th inst. THE Relief granted during the Year is classed as follows:

7 Retail Booksellers have received

14 Booksellers' Assistants..

3 Widows of Retail Booksellers..

6 Widows of Booksellers' Assistants

£136 9 0

129 8 0

36 10 0

61 5 0

363 12 0 NOTE.-One Retail Bookseller, Five Booksellers' Assistants, and One Widow of a Bookseller's Assistant, included in

the above statement, are Permanent Annuitants.

The Amount thus expended is larger than in any former year, yet a considerable sum has been added to the permanent fund. The Rules, as re-arranged at the last General Meeting, have, in their application, fully answered. A far larger proportion than usual of Members have been removed by death during the last year, and the Directors have in several instances availed themselves of the power enabling them to make such advances towards the funeral expenses as they considered necessary. There are at present belonging to the Institution-Life Members, 319; Annual Subscribers, 107; Honorary Members, 49: Total, 475;-and it is hoped that ere long the benefits which are so palpable will induce a much larger proportion of the Trade to join the Institution, the amount funded fully justifying the assurance that any member who may require assistance will be liberally attended to by the Directors. It is interesting to show the amount collected altogether during the twelve years since the formation of the Institution.
