LONDON, January 1849.

GENTLEMEN,- -We are reluctantly compelled to inform you, that in consequence of certain regulations recently adopted by those Law Publishers whose names we subjoin, and with which we are unable to comply, we cannot obtain the Law Books, Reports, Journals, &c. published by them with any greater allowance than Ten per Cent. for Cash; and we, therefore, cannot make you the usual Trade Allowance to which, as Booksellers, you are entitled.

It is not necessary for us to enter into a minute history of what has taken place; but we assure you that we have done our utmost to reconcile the differences which have arisen, and to protect the interests of the COUNTRY TRADE, and that it is to our great regret we find our efforts have proved unavailing.

The Publishers who have adopted these regulations are

Messrs. Stevens and Norton, Bell Yard.

Mr. Maxwell, Bell Yard.
Mr. Sweet, Chancery Lane.
