of the Holy Spirit, was added to the church meeting in 41 Brown Street.-Pathhead, Fife. The church here makes good progress since opening their neat hall, four persons made the good confession during the currency of the past month, and continue with the brethren stedfastly in the apostolic doctrine.-Birmingham. Brother King writes that twenty-four have been added to the infant church here since August, some by baptism, and some previously immersed.

EXTENSIVE BISHOPRICK.-The Scotch Baptist diocese of Bristo, in Edinburgh, has of late been extended south to the borders of Scotland, for The Freeman informs its readers that Mr H. D. Dickie, one of the pastors of said church in Bristo Place, was present to address the congregation in Berwick-on-Tweed, and lay hands on a young man called and elected by that border congregation to be its pastor. This is something new in Scotch Baptist episcopacy. When there are so many in the Edinburgh congregation who know that there is not a shred of Scripture for the call or election by men of a youth or elder either, to the pastorate, how can they approve of one of their own elders going fifty-eight miles and a-half out of his way to per petrate the unscriptural farce of making a youngster an elder, as if there were magic or miracle in onlaid hands?

EDITORIAL POSTSCRIPT.-We close this second volume with much encouragement. The subscription list continues favourable, though not so large as brethren might make it. Still the testimonies to the acceptability and usefulness of the 'Advocate' and 'Sunbeam' during this year, have been very numerous and cheering. Though not up to our ideal, our little issues have not been unacknowledged for good by that gracious Sovereign whom we love and serve. They have not been made so much use of as we could have wished by brethren as a means of self-improvement. Nothing is more calculated to improve a young student of the word than the careful commitment to writing, of what he would say on a passage of scripture. Our pages are open for the encouragement of such brethren; but, instead of having sent us every month quite a number of carefully studied and well written-brief, very brief articles, brimfull suggestive thought, we have had rather too many ill-digested loosely-written rambling papers, which young men of thought and spirit ought not to think of addressing to their brethren. much less to put in print for the public eye. Again, not a few are ever on the catch for a disputed point, who would serve the Lord much better by keeping within the proper limits of christian exhor tation the inciting of one another to love and to good works. A word to the wise is enough. Thanks to all who have helped, and double honour to such as have done so earnestly and efficiently. Our tract issues might be made more use of in many quarters, only that some are fallen asleep. Brethren, let us work while it is called to-day, for the night comes wherein no man can work, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and the light shall illumine thee. ED.
