Thou shalt not bear fàlse witness against thy neighbour'"' Lord, &c

Thou shalt not co`vet thy neighbour's house" thou shalt not co`vet thy neighbour's wife" nor his servant' nor his maid' nor his o'x' nor his àss' nor any thing that is his""

Lord have mercy upon us' and write all these thy laws in our hearts we beseech thee=

It is remarkable that our Author should have omitted an emphasis on the word "covet," in the tenth commandment, which is so evidently the governing word. "I had not known lust, except the law had said, thou shalt not co`vet."

Another fault worth noticing, on account of its commonness, is the placing of the emphasis on "neighbour," in the ninth and tenth commandments; as if there might be some persons precluded from the benefit of the prohibitions. One would think that the man, to whom our Lord addressed the parable of the good Samaritan, had been used to this mode of delivery, by his asking, "and who is my neighbour?"

THEN THE MINISTER MAY SAY,

Hear àlso what our Lord Jesus Christ saith. Thou shalt lo`ve the Lord thy Gōd with all thy heart' and with all thy soul' and with all

thy mind" This is the first and great commandment"" And the sècond' is like unto it" Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself"" On thèse two commandments' hang all the law and the prophets"

LET US PRAỸ.

Ŏ Almighty Lord and everlasting Gōd' vouchsafe' we beseech thee' to dire`ct' san`ctify' and go`vern' both our heàrts and bodies' in the ways of thy laws' and in the wo`rks of thy commandments" that' through thy most mighty protection' both here and ever' we may be preserved in body and soul' through our Lord and Saviour' Jesus Christ""

THE NICENE CREED.

I believe in one God' the Father Almighty' maker of heaven and earth' and of all things vi'sible and invisible" and in o'ne Lord' Jesus Christ" the o'nly begotten Son of God" begotten of his Father before all worlds" Gōd of God" Light òf light" very God of very God" bego`t ten' not made" being of one substance with the Father' by whom all things were made"

who' for us men' and for our salvation' came down from Heaven' and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost' of the Virgin Mary' and was made màn" and was crùcified also for us under Pontius Pilate" He suffered' and was buried' and the third day he ròse again' according to the scriptures' and ascended into Heaven" and sitteth on the right hand of the Father" And He shall come agai`'n'with glōry' to judge both the quick and the dead" whose kingdom shall have no end"" And I believe in the Hōly Ghost the Lord and giver of life" who proceedeth from the Father and the Son" who' with the Father and the So`n together is worshipped' and glorified" who spake by the prophets"" And I believe one Catholic and Aposto'lic Church" I acknowledge o`ne baptism for the remission of sins" and I look for the resurrection of the dea'd' and the life of the world to co'me.'=

There is a passage in the Creed, often faultily delivered, in the following manner-Go'd of Go'd, Light of light, very God of ve'ry God'-In which mode of expression-'Go`d of Go'd' according to the common acceptation, it would imply a superiority in him over God; as, when we say, 'King of Kings;' but, by laying the stress on, 'of,' as God of God'

-the true meaning is pointed out, which is, God proceeded from God, light from light, very God fro`m very God.' Thus indicating the unity of the divine nature and essence, in connexion with the personal distinctions in the Godhead.

I shall now proceed to the rest of the service for the Communion.
