AND

ADELPHI ACADEMY.

Three Collegiate Courses.

1. CLASSICAL. Four years of required and optional work in classics, mathematics, history, philosophy, science, and modern languages.

2. LITERARY. Four years of required and optional work in English literature, history, science, languages, philosophy, mathematics, classics. and pedagogics.

3. SCIENTIFIC. Three years required work in mathematics, natural history, English literature, political history, and in all branches of chemical and physical science. In the fourth year optional work in applied sciences.

The Classical and Literary Courses lead to the degree of Bachelor of Arts; the Scientific Course to the degree of Bachelor of Science. All Adelphi degrees are awarded in the name of the University of the State of New York, and are signed by the officers of the Board of Regents as well as by the officers of the College. The Adelphi is the only Brooklyn institution in which a woman can obtain a collegiate degree. It is the only unsectarian college in Brooklyn which maintains a Classical Course for the B. A. degree.

The Academic work comprises, first, a kindergarten and primary department, and, second, a grammar department. A modern language may be studied throughout these grades; Latin in the two highest years. Third, a subcollegiate department prepares for any college. Certificates given. Academy diploma in any one of three courses given at end of Fifth Year. Fourth, the School of Musical Art. under the direction of Dr. Henry G. Hanchett, maintains both classes and lecture courses in the theory and practice of music. Fifth, the Art School is under the charge of Prof. John B. Whittaker. Sixth, the Normal Course gives a thorough two years' training in kindergartening.

The Adelphi maintains six scientific laboratories and a library and reading room. The studios for the Art School occupy the whole of one floor. There are spacious gymnasiums and a play ing field. Students may be admitted at any time to any department of the Adelphi Academy, provided there is a vacant seat in the grade room to which the student would be assigned. Examinations for admission to the Collegiate courses are held and applications for admission to the Academy are received September 13-15, 1899.

During the last six years of the Academy Course all instruction is in the hands of specialists; in the earlier grades special teachers and grade teachers are associated together.

Especial attention is invited to the perfect ventilation of the Adelphi buildings. These buildings fill the entire end of the block between Lafayette avenue and Clifton place, upon St. James place. Convenient means of access are provided by the elevated railways (Myrtle, DeKalb, Greene, and Vanderbilt avenue stations), and by the DeKalb, Gates, Fulton, and Vanderbilt electric cars. Special cars without change from the Park Slope and from the Eastern District.
