Duties, how calculated on Invoice.

of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-three, there shall be raised, levied and
paid on the several articles hereinafter men-
tioned, imported or brought into this Island,
from any place or country whatsoever, the
several Impost duties, rates or impositions in-
serted, described and set forth in figures in the
table of duties hereinafter contained, denomi-
nated "Table of Impost Duties,” opposite to
and against the said respective articles as there-
in mentioned, described and enumerated, and
according to the value, number and quantity
thereof, as therein specified. The first and
third columns of duties in the said table denot-
ing the ad-valorem duty or amount payable on
every one hundred dollars worth of the article
imported, which shall be in like proportion for
any less amount than one hundred dollars
worth, and the second column denoting the
specific duty on each article; and the said du-
ties shall be calculated on the actual value or
amount of the Invoice when reduced into the
decimal system of Currency now by law estab-
lished in this Island; and the amount of any
Invoice of dutiable goods imported from the
United States of America into this Island made
out in the legal and established currency of the
said United States of America shall, for all the
purposes of this Act, be reduced into the Deci-
mal Currency now by law established in this
Island, by allowing for each dollar of the legal
currency of the said United States of America
the sum of one hundred cents of lawful current ,
money of Prince Edward Island, or such other
sum as the Lieutenant Governor or other Ad-
ministrator of the Government of this Island in
Council shall, from time to time, fix and de-
termine; the rate so fixed by the Government
to be published in the Royal Gazette Newspa-
per weekly, and in ļike proportion for any
smaller part or fraction of a dollar.
