Gal. iii. 26; iv. 4.

CONFIRMATION.

CHILDREN, at their baptism, promise repentance and faith by their sureties, which promise, when they come to age, themselves are bound to perform.

218. Your Promise at Baptism. (c.M.)
PRAISE God, whose never failing grace
Will always guard his fold;
With mercy beaming from his face,
He looks on young and old.

Baptized to him, called by his name,
Our vows let us renew,

And yield our hearts to him who came,
A Saviour kind and true.

Thy grace, O Lord, to us impart,
And bless this hallowed rite;
Thy Spirit pour on every heart,
And clothe our souls in white.

219. The God of Grace stablish you.

THEY sent unto them Peter and John: Who, when they were come down, prayed for them,

That they might receive the Holy Ghost: (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them :

Only they were baptized

In the name of the Lord Jesus.)

Then laid they their hands on them,
And they received the Holy Ghost.

220.

Acts viii. 14.

(C. M.)

He shall Feed his Flock.

Or Christ, O love to sing each day!
Of Christ, O love to learn!

And when he talketh by the way,
O may our bosom burn!

With tender heart and gentle hand,
And eyes that never sleep,
He leadeth to the heavenly land

His feeble lambs and sheep.

His word doth teach and warm the heart, And sweetly tune the tongue;

Bids cares and follies all depart,
And helps along the young.

He calls his flock with gracious voice,
And numbers all their names;

He bids the young make him their choice,
Their vows, their hearts, he claims.

221.

Dead to sin, alive to God.

KNOW ye not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ

Were baptized into his death?

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death:

That like as Christ was raised up from the dead

By the glory of the Father,

Even so we also should walk in newness of life. Rom. vi. 3.

THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD'S SUPPER.

FOR the continual remembrance of the sacrifice of the death of Christ, and of the benefits which we receive thereby.

222. I am the Bread of Life.

LAMB of God, for sinners slain !
Sacrifice, our peace to gain!

(7's.)

Bread of life, which came from heaven!
Thou, O Christ, for us wast given !

Alway with Thy Church art thou,
Present with us even now;
To our souls for ever near,
Us to nourish, keep, and cheer!
By the sacramental bread,
On Thyself the soul is fed;
Of Thy living blood, the wine
To the faithful is the sign.

223. Christ our Passover sacrificed for us. THE cup of blessing which we bless,

Is it not the communion of the blood of Christ?

The bread which we break,

Is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

For we, being many, are one bread and one body:

For we are all partakers of that one bread. 1 Cor. x. 16.

SACRED PLACES AND TIMES.

Consecration Service for Churches and
Churchyards.

BLESSED be thy name, O Lord God, for that it pleaseth thee to have thy habitation among the sons of men upon earth. Grant that in this place, now set apart to thy

service, thy holy name may be worshipped in truth and purity to all generations.

Vouchsafe, O Lord, to be now present with us who are here to consecrate this place to the honour of thy great name, separating it henceforth from all unhallowed, ordinary, and common uses, and dedicating it entirely to thy service and holy worship. O God, thou hast taught us in thy Word that there is a difference between the spirit of a beast that goeth downwards to the earth, and the spirit of a man which goeth up to God who gave it. By the example of thy holy servants in all ages, thou hast taught us to set apart peculiar places where the bodies of thy saints may rest in peace, and be preserved from all indignities, while their souls are safely kept in the hands of their faithful Redeemer. Mercifully accept this work of ours, in separating this portion of land to that good service.

224. Church is the House of God. (7's.)

In this house the Lord is near,
God our Saviour dwelleth here!
Let no evil enter in,

Idle looks or thoughts of sin.

In this house our fathers prayed,
Round it in the dust they're laid;
