Thee we were given in our baptism. Thee we have vowed to serve: and in Thy dwelling-place in heaven we hope for our everlasting home, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, &c.

323.

Prayer for Godly Wisdom.

ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, who hast given Thy holy Scriptures for a lantern to our feet and a light unto our steps, shine into our hearts with Thy holy Spirit, that we may learn Thy will, and understand Thy goodness in Jesus Christ. Forgive all our sins for His sake. Open and enlighten the eyes of our minds that we may know what the hope is which Thou hast given us in Thy Gospel; and the vanity of what belongs only to this present life. Write in our hearts love to Thy law, hatred of all sin, thankfulness of mind, and humble, cheerful, happy trust in Thee: that so we may be Christians in deed as well as name; may remember the vows of our baptism, and serve Thee truly all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, &c. 324. School Prayer, Week-day Morning.

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who hast kept us through all the past time of our lives, and hast brought us safely unto this morning, let thy gracious eye be over

us to-day, to help and govern and defend. Thou hast commanded that none should be idle, but all should be occupied in godly and virtuous duties, each according to our calling and our age. Give us grace that we may spend this day according to Thy holy will, seeking and gaining all needful instruction and wisdom. Bless our Queen and our country. Bless Thy Church. Bless all our friends. May we set Thee alway before our eyes, living in Thy fear, working what is pleasing in Thy sight, and receiving Thy blessing for time and eternity, through the merits of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father, &c.

325. School Prayer, Week-day Evening. O GOD of goodness and mercy, who hast appointed the day for work and the night for rest, we beseech Thee for Jesus Christ's sake, forgive us all that we have done amiss this day in thought, word, or deed. Fix in our minds what we have learned, and bless it for our present and everlasting good. Take us into thy safe and holy keeping that we may lie down to-night trusting in Thee, and may rise to-morrow preserved by Thee. We bless Thee for Thy tender kindness to us all our lives, and pray Thee to continue to us, if it be Thy will, our health and comforts and welfare; and whensoever

our last hour shall come, take us unto Thy mercy, unworthy though we have been, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Our Father, &c.

Amen.

326. School Prayer for Sunday Morning. O ALMIGHTY Father, we bless Thee for another Sunday given us. Grant us the help of Thy grace to remember Thy Sabbath and keep it holy, for it is not our day, but thine only. Be with us now, that it may be good for us to be here: Open our hearts to attend to the things which are taught us out of thy word, and help us to learn what belongs to our everlasting peace, and to gain the knowledge of our Saviour. Let not the Wicked one catch away the good seed when sown in our minds. Deliver us from all the ways of the Destroyer. Keep in our remembrance what was promised and vowed at our baptism, and the name which was named over us, and the sign wherewith we were signed, in token that we should be good soldiers and servants of Jesus Christ.

Let Thy Holy Spirit mould us to love Thee with all our hearts, and our neighbour as ourselves to obey our parents and teachers, to honour the Queen, to be kind to each other, loving to our brothers and sisters, reverent to our betters, especially to the aged, and useful to all,-serving

Thee in humbleness, meekness, and godliness all our days. Give us grace to worship Thee in spirit and in truth; to pray and sing with the Spirit and the understanding, as well as with the lips, and to behave in Thy holy house as those who know that Thou art alway there present. Set us daily more and more free from the bondage of our own evil nature and the power of Satan. Bless us and mercifully forgive our sins, because we ask in the name of Him who said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, even in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Father, &c. 327.School Prayer for Sunday Evening. O Gon, who hast given us grace this day to hear and learn Thy blessed Word, grant us a humble and teachable and truthful spirit: that each Sunday may strengthen us for the week; and that the seed sown may spring up in us and bear fruit abundantly unto everlasting life. Strengthen our weakness and enlighten our ignorance; deepen our repentance to forsake sin, increase our faith stedfastly to believe in Thy promises in Christ: that we may henceforth amend our ways, and trust wholly in our Redeemer, and live for God. Let Thy fatherly favour preserve us day by day from all dangers of soul or body; let Thy merciful goodness keep us

ever in the highway of holiness. That if it be Thy pleasure for us to live and grow up, we may lead our lives for Thy glory, serving Thee faithfully, and doing good in our generation: Or else, if it be Thy will to take us young out of this sinful world, of Thy great mercy prepare us, and receive our souls where those that fall asleep in Jesus are for ever happy with Thee.

Grant to other children, also, the blessings which Thou hast given to us: that they who sit in darkness and have none to teach them, may receive the light of Thy Gospel and learn the knowledge of their Saviour. Hear us and pardon all our sins, for Jesus Christ's sake.-Amen. Father, &c.

328. The Seed is the Word of God. (P.M.) ON what has now been sown

Thy blessing, Lord, bestow,
The power is Thine alone

To make it spring and grow,

Do Thou the gracious harvest raise, And Thou alone shalt have the praise. 329. It is good for us to be here. (L. M.) KEEP us, O Lord, in peace this day, And guide our footsteps in Thy fear! So shall we, henceforth, have to say, 'Twas good for us that we were here!
