A simple but clever Invention has been made by Mr. Edward Hill, of the London Chatham and Dover Railway, Victoria Station, Pimlico, 8. W., by which a Guard of an Express Train can drop a Parcel, Letter, Audit or Letter-bag, without risk of damage. At present Parcels, &c., cannot be thrown out of a Train whilst passing a Station without danger of damage or of injury to any one with whom they may come in contact. By this Invention some hours may frequently be saved in the delivery of Parcels, Post-bags, &c. The Invention consists of a small piece of metal fastened at one end to the Parcel, whilst at the ether end of the metal is a sort of Loop, so constructed that when a metal ring at the end of a cord is attached to it, it is impossible to disconnect the cord from the Parcel whilst the latter remains suspended, but as soon as the Parcel or Bag touches the platform, or the ground, the cord and ring immediately become detached, and the Parcel remains behind. The Invention is now in daily use en the London Chatham and Dover Railway, and is found to give great satisfaction. The Invention is also Patented for Detaching Ships' Boats at Sea, as well as Shipping and Depositing Goods or objects of any kind at Wharfi, Warehouses, and other places. [Lo.-71. JAMES L.
