Information. Duties of division consist
of the collection of engineering informa-
tion from all sources and its dissemina-
tion to the naval service generally; mat-
ters concerning the detail of engineering
personnel; the inspection of fuel oil, coal,
gasoline, etc., for the service.

In charge of the Division of Electrical En-
gineering. Duties of division consist of
the design of generators, motors, control-
ling appliances, interior communication,
switchboard instruments, searchlights,
storage batteries, preparation of specifi
cations for electric plants for new ships,
and for electrical material; examination
of bids; preparation of data for requisi-
tions; preparation of plans and specifica-
tions for electric power and lghting,
ship-control and fire-control systems on
new ships; repair and overhaul of old
ships; design of switchboard fixtures and
wiring appliances; computation of wire
sizes; criticism of contractors' plans; fil-
ing of its plans and records.
In charge of the Division of Repairs. Du-
ties of division consist of consideration of
questions affecting navy-yard work in
general and the repair and installation of
machinery of vessels other than those
building by contract; preparation of the
stock list of important engineering mate-
rial to be kept in store at navy yards
and keeping a record of the quantity ac-
tually on hand; keeping a record of the
machinery of all steam launches and mo-
tor boats and of the machinery of this
class in store for issue; making the as-
signment for new boats; passing upon
surveys on engineering material at navy
yards; passing on the equipment of ma-
chine tools for shops of the Machinery
Division at navy yards and for ships.
