JAMES MARION BAKER, Secretary of the Senate (3141 Highland Place), was born August 18, 1861, at Lowndesville, S. C.; was educated at the public schools and at Wofford College; studied law in New York City in 1885; engaged in business until he was appointed assistant librarian of the Senate on August 7, 1893, and served as the Democratic caucus representative while in the Senate library until his election as Secretary of the Senate of the United States on March 13, 1913.
