By direction of the Secretary of War the following is published for the information and guidance of all concerned:

By authority of the President of the United States, dated September 20, 1883, the following described lands east of the Monte Diablo meridian, in the State of California (Mount Whitney), are proclaimed a military reservation, viz:

All of township 15 south, range 34 east; township 16 south, range 34 east; and township 16 south, range 35 east.

Sections 19 to 36, inclusive, of township 15 south, range 35 east, and sections 19, 20, 29, 30, 31, and 32 of township 15 south, range 36 east.

Paragraph 1357 of the Regulations of 1863 having been omitted, apparently by inadvertence, from the existing codification, to correct the error paragraph 220 of the Regulations is, by direction of the Secretary of War, amended to read as follows:

220. Enlisted men who absent themselves from their regiments, companies, or posts, without authority or without satisfactory excuse, shall forfeit all pay and allowance accruing during such absence, and shall also, upon conviction by court-martial, make good the time lost by such absence.

By direction of the Secretary of War the troops stationed at Boise Barracks, Idaho Territory, will hereafter be paid by the officers of the Pay Department stationed in the Department of the Platte, under the direction of the commanding general of that department.
