THE DISTREST MOTHER

Is taken from the tragedy of ANDROMAQUE, by Racine, and was first acted at Drury Lane in 1712.

Mr. Addison, from the warm interest he took (in common with many learned and celebrated cotemporaries) in the success of this play, has made it the subject of two numbers of the Spec\tator; the one produced prior to the play, and a second during the run of it. The epilogue also, supposed to be furnished by Mr. Addison, was so well received as to have been encored on each of the three first nights of representation.
