PREFACE.

AMONG various publications respecting the British Metropolis, perhaps none has a fairer claim to the public patronage than the following compilation. Several voluminous works have been perused, and facts arranged so as to give an EPITOME of the HISTORY of LONDON; together with a concise, but accurate, view of those numerous interesting objects which excite the curiosity of the stranger on his arrival in this capital. A sketch is also given of the present state of commerce, manners, public amusements, and the various improvements of London, so as to furnish the stranger with a rich fund of information and entertainment. Indeed, this little book may, with confi
