3 When land is far and death is nigh,
Lost to all hope, to God they cry;
His mercy hears their loud address,
And sends salvation in distress.

mf 4 Oh! may the sons of men record
The wondrous goodness of the Lord;
Let them their private offerings bring,
And in the church his glory sing.

PSALM 107, C. M.

Servants of God safe.

OW are thy servants blessed, O Lord!
How sure is their defence!
Eternal wisdom is their guide,

Their help, Omnipotence.

2 In foreign realms, and lands remote,
Supported by thy care,

Through burning climes they pass unhurt,
And breathe in tainted air.

3 When, by the dreadful tempest borne,
High on the broken wave,

They know thou art not slow to hear,
Nor impotent to save.

4 The storm is laid-the winds retire,
Obedient to thy will;

The sea, that roars at thy command,
At thy command is still.

5 In midst of dangers, fears and deaths,
Thy goodness we 'll adore;

107 mf 1

We'll praise thee for thy mercies past,
And humbly hope for more.

PSALM 107, First Part, 7s.

THANK

Divine Guidance.

HANK and praise Jehovah's name;
For his mercies, firm and sure,

From eternity, the same,

To eternity, endure.

2 Let the ransomed thus rejoice,
Gathered out of every land,

As the people of his choice,

Plucked from the destroyer's hand.

dol

3 To a pleasant land he brings,
Where the vine and olive grow,
Where, from flowery hills, the springs
Through luxuriant valleys flow.

mf 4 Oh! that men would praise the Lord,
For his goodness to their race;
For the wonders of his word,
And the riches of his grace.

PSALM 107, Second Part, 7s.
The Dangers of the Ocean.
'HEY who toil upon the deep,
And, in vessels light and frail,
O'er the mighty waters sweep,
With the billow and the gale,
Mark what wonders God performs,-
When he speaks, and, unconfined,
Rush to battle all his storms,

In the chariots of the wind.

2 Up to heaven their bark is whirled,
On the mountain of the wave;
Down as suddenly 't is hurled
To th' abysses of the grave;
To and fro they reel-they roll,
As intoxicate with wine;
Terrors paralyze their soul,

Helm they quit, and hope resign.

3 Then unto the Lord they cry;
He inclines a gracious ear,
Sends deliverance from on high,
Rescues them from all their fear:
Oh! that men would praise the Lord,
For his goodness to their race;
For the wonders of his word,
And the riches of his grace.

PSALM 108, C. M.

A Morning Song.

1 WAKE, my soul! to sound his praise,
Awake, my harp! to sing;

Join, all my powers! the song to raise,
And morning incense bring.

2 Among the people of his care,

And through the nations round,

[ocr errors]

Glad songs of praise will I prepare,
And there his name resound.

3. Be thou exalted, O my God!
Above the starry frame;
Diffuse thy heavenly grace abroad,
And teach the world thy name.

4 So shall thy chosen sons rejoice,
And throng thy courts above;

mf 1

While sinners hear thy pard'ning voice,
And taste redeeming love.

PSALM 109, C. M.

The Example of Christ.

OD of my mercy and my praise!
Thy glory is my song

Though sinners speak against thy grace
With a blaspheming tongue.

mp 2 When, in the form of mortal man,
Thy Son on earth was found,
With cruel slanders, false and vain,
They compassed him around.

3 Their miseries his compassion move,
Their peace he still pursued;

They render hatred for his love,
And evil for his good.

mf 4 Their malice raged without a cause
Yet, with his dying breath,

p

He prayed for murderers on his cross,
And blessed his foes in death.

mp 5 Lord! shall thy bright example shine
In vain before my eyes?

m

Give me a soul a-kin to thine,
To love mine enemies.

mf 6 The Lord shall on my side engage,
And, in my Saviour's name,

110

m"

I shall defeat their pride and rage
Who slander and condemn.

PSALM 110, L. M.

Christ exalted as a King and Saviour.
1 THUS God, th' eternal Father, spake
THUS
To Christ, the Son-" Ascend and sit

At my right hand, till I shall make
Thy foes submissive at thy feet.
2 "From Zion shall thy word proceed;
Thy word, the sceptre in thy hand,
Shall make the hearts of rebels bleed,

And bow their wills to thy command. mf 3 "That day shall show thy power is great, When saints shall flock with willing minds, And sinners crowd thy temple-gate, Where holiness, in beauty, shines."

4 Oh! blesséd power-Oh! glorious day!
How large a vict'ry shall ensue;
And converts, who thy grace obey,
Exceed the drops of morning-dew.

PSALM 110, C. M.

Christ's Kingdom and Priesthood.

JESUS, our Lord! ascend thy throne,
And near thy Father sit:

In Zion shall thy power be known,
And make thy foes submit,

2 What wonders shall thy gospel do!
Thy converts shall surpass

The numerous drops of morning dew,
And own thy sovereign grace.

3 God hath pronounced a firm decree,
Nor changes what he swore ;-
"Eternal shall thy priesthood be,
When Aaron is no more."

4 Jesus, our priest, for ever lives,
To plead for us above:
Jesus, our king, for ever gives
The blessings of his love.

Shall strike the powers and princes dead,
Who dare oppose his reign.
