STARTING A NEW YEAR.

The Chairman takes this opportunity to congratulate
the members of the boards and the office staff on their
success in bringing the work up to date. Between March
11 and December 31, 1918, the Board of Standards and
Appeals disposed of 1,869 cases, while the Board of Ap-
peals decided 247 building zone cases and 544 appeals
from administrative orders. This makes a total of 2,660
cases disposed of in 91⁄2 months at 98 sessions. This
record compares with 2,324 cases disposed of at 189
sessions in the 191⁄2 months from the organization of
these boards to March 11, 1918.

Having thus cleared the calendar of accumulated cases,
only 70 were carried over into the New Year, only 8 of
these being cases filed prior to March 11, 1918. Two
requests for reopening received since January 1 have
increased the number to 72.

The disposition of cases between March 11 and Decem-
ber 31, 1918, is shown in the following table:
